Spring tennis has officially wrapped up for Devine, as Jeremy Steinbrunner took a tough loss in the second round, 6-2, 6-0, of the regional tournament. Steinbrunner won his first match handily, winning 6-0,6-0 against Evan Hamilton, Eastside Early College Prep. His loss in the second round came from “a very good player” Miguel Mejia from Valley View, the fourth seed, who would go on to the finals. Head coach Kandi Darnell said Steinbunner had a good spring season and was proud of the performance he put on at the tournament.
“[Steinbrunner] had three first place finishes  and four second finishes this season,” Darnell said. “He represented DHS tennis well. Our competition at 4A was toughest which made for some great tennis.”
Congratulations to Jeremy and his incredible season!

Wowser! Devine and Floresville went toe-to-toe throughout the District 29-4A Meet in Somerset last week, and it was an exciting scoreboard to watch as the first legs of the 4x400m Relay got into the blocks with championship repercussions on the line.
Devine was trailing 162-180 when the gun sounded and needed a first place finish along with a no better than sixth place finish by the Tigers to pull out at least a share of the district title.
…and that is what exactly happened!
Devine used all of its “horse-power” to take gold with a final time of 3:25.97, more than 4½ seconds ahead of runner-up Pearsall.
More importantly Floresville slipped all the way to 6th place with a time of 3:35.99, more than 10 long seconds behind the Warhorses.
The Horses 20 points from the win and the Tigers 2 points from their 6th place showing evened the final tally to 182-182 and a share of the District 27-4A Championship.
Although that mile relay winning effort by…LOGIN TO CONTINUE READING at www.devinenewsmembers.com. With only three games left in the District 27-4A season, Devine is looking to make a late push for that fourth and final spot. Sitting at 4-5 with upcoming games against Somerset on April 17, at Pearsall on April 21, and the finale at home against Floresville the Horses need a little help in making it to the UIL Postseason Playoffs.
The Horses dropped an 11-inning, 3-2 marathon-match against Pleasanton to end last week, a game Devine could have used to position themselves firmer in the playoff race.
However after…LOGIN TO CONTINUE READING at www.devinenewsmembers.com. You will get instant access to our full E-edition, and begin getting the newspaper delivered to your home next week for $36 a year in Medina County. Support important local city, county, and school news like this!

The Devine Arabians have arrived at their last game of the season as their final showdown against first in district Somerset. The rematch is set for Friday, April 17 at 7 P.M. on Devine’s home field. Before taking the tough Antonian Prep in a non-district game this past Monday, the Arabians were riding a three game win streak. During this run, Kenny Cruz had four hits as lead off, Maddy Hester had six hits, two of which were homeruns. Sam Zamora with five hits while pitching nine innings, racking up 19 strikeouts against Pleasanton. Karsyn Deleon had five hits with one homerun.
Head coach Micheal Sotelo sung the praises of his squad. Heralding their connectivity throughout the roster whilst every player fulfills the role the team requires from them.

The UIL Playoffs are not out of reach for Devine, but they need to go on a good run to end their 29-4A campaign. The Horses played Carrizo Springs on April 7 and next go against the Eagles in Pleasanton on April 10 and at home versus Somerset on April 17.
The Horses were on a tear earlier in district but hit somewhat of a rough patch by dropping their two previous contests prior to their Wildcat encounter on Tuesday night.
Devine lost 7-3 to Uvalde on April 1 after briefly holding a 1-0 advantage in the top of the second inning.
Things quickly turned for the worst on the bottom of the second as the…LOGIN TO CONTINUE READING at www.devinenewsmembers.com.
