Halfway through 29-4A, Horses in need of a hot streak on the diamond

The Warhorses play Uvalde this coming April 5 and they play Carrizo in Devine on April 9.

There have not been many diamonds in the rough on the actual diamond for the Warhorse baseball team as they sat 1-4 in District 29-4A going into the final game of round one last night against Floresville.
Devine was looking to build on their recent 3-2 win against Pearsall which hopefully leads to a spot in the state playoffs later this month.

Warhorse Israel Reyes 6th place at State!

Junior Warhorse powerlifter Israel Reyes capped off his tremendous 2024 campaign on the state’s highest stage as he placed 6th overall at State in Abilene. There were 28 total lifters in the 181-pound division.
Reyes squatted 600-pounds, benched 385-pounds, and deadlifted 530-pounds to set his personal total-record at 1,515 pounds. Reyes and Head Coach Paul Gomez are proud of what Israel accomplished this season and are looking forward to bigger and better things in 2025…

Warhorse track team champs at home meet; JV 6th

Devine scored 150 points to beat District 29-4A foe Pearsall who finished with 131 points. The JV placed 6th with 53 points.
Donovan Dixon had two gold-medal performances with one in the 400m and the other in 800m. Tanner Davis leaped his way to gold in High Jump while Ismael Torres finished at the highest level in Pole Vault.
Karter Brown won silver in both Shot Put and Discus while the 4x100m sprint relay…

Arabian track team champs, JV runner-up at Warhorse Stadium

Kylie Monreal hands off to Kourtni Geyer in the 4x100m Relay which took the gold. Monreal had the most outstanding day, winning gold in each of the five events she competed in.

The Arabians over-doubled their competitors in points scored at Warhorse Stadium last Wednesday as the track team took the championship by scoring a whopping 235 points to easily outdistance runner-up Hondo who tallied 102.5. Carrizo Springs was a distant third with 91 points.
The JV did not do to shabby either, placing as runner-up with 98 points compared to team-champion Bandera who put up 179 points.
The two sprint-relay teams scored 40 points between…

Arabian Denise Contreras tabbed TABC Class 4A All-Region Team

Denise Conteras was a huge part of the tremendous successes achieved by the Arabian basketball team in 2023-2024. Devine posted a 30-8 overall record which included a perfect 12-0 District 29-4A district-championship campaign.
Texas Association of Basketball Coaches recognized Contreras’ contributions and promptly tabbed her for the Class 4A-Region IV All-Region Team.

Horses looking to get back on track in 29-4A

Warhorse #1 Luke Friesenhahn fields 3rd out for the Warhorses to hold Wildcats 1-1 in the 5th inning.

District 29-4A has not been a bed of roses thus far for Head Coach Heath Poppe and his Warhorse baseball team as they dropped their first two league games prior to their March 19 tilt against Pleasanton.
Devine lost back-to-back leads against Uvalde at home and versus Carrizo Springs at Wildcat Field to drop to 0-2.
Against the Coyotes Devine led 3-2 going into the top of the 7th before the roof fell in and Uvalde escaped with the 7-3 victory. In Carrizo Springs, the Horses were up by the slimmest of margins at 2-1 going into the bottom of the 6th inning before the Wildcats tied it at 2 apiece.

Horses compete at Regionals

Israel Reyes has one more competition to go in 2024 and it is his biggest and most important one yet as he qualified for the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene at Taylor Country Arena. Reyes placed 4th overall in the 181lb division.
Seth De Leon and Joe Guerrero also qualified for the Regional Meet at JK Northway in Edinberg but were not able to successfully extend their season.
Reyes lifted a total weight of 1,450 pounds that included 600lb in the squat rack, 325lb on bench, and 525lb deadlifting.
Congratulations to all three Warhorses and best of luck to Israel in Abilene!
