The Arabian freshman volleyball team recently put the wrap to their incredible 14-1 season with a tenaciously fought 2-1 win over Somerset that wound up being their final contest of the year due to Pearsall not being able to field a team on the final night of District 27-4A action.
With the dramatic win over the Lady Bulldogs, Coach Kara Stacy’s team ended its league schedule with an impressive 8-1 mark that guaranteed them a piece of the District Championship with Floresville, who also went 8-1 as each team’s sole loss came against the other.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances the freshman girls had to end their season a game early in District play,” Stacy stated. “However, the girls did not let that prevent them from finishing the season on a high note with a three-set thriller against an aggressive and scrappy Somerset team!”

A long season consisting of two-a-days, scrimmages, tournaments, and District 27-4A battles all comes to a head as Devine’s UIL postseason run begins with their Bi-District matchup against the Cuero Lady Gobblers on October 30 at 6pm. The site of the first round game is Seguin High School.
Devine finished its regular season with a 23-17 mark overall (not including their October 28 warm-up game against Randolph) and a 9-3 27-4A record.
Consecutive victories versus Carrizo Springs, Pleasanton, Somerset, and Pearsall has the Arabians peaking at the right time of the year to hopefully make a serious run to the Regional Tournament.
Cuero enters their own playoff run after finishing 21-22 overall, which includes their 5-5 District 28 record. The Lady Gobblers finished third in league standings.
La Vernia took the 28-4A championship with a spotless 10-0 record, followed by Navarro who went 8-2. Gonzales was the fourth place team and qualified for the postseason with their 4-6 finish.

Varsity Devine Tennis’ season has come to an end after multiple hard fought matches falling  to Fredericksburg, 17-2.  There were several matches that went the distance, showcasing the talent and determination the Warhorses and Arabians played with all season.
“We had three matches that we lost in the split tiebreakers and two matches where we came back from behind to win in a third set tiebreaker,” Head coach Kandi Darnell said. “I was really pleased with the way our kids fought and competed throughout the match.”

Devine was twice ready to run away with a victory over visiting Carrizo Springs last Friday as they took an early 14-0 lead and a late 28-14 advantage at Warhorse Stadium.
However, things got a little hairy on each occasion as the Cats shaved multiple 14-point deficits down, but the Warhorses buckled down to pull out the 28-20 victory.
Devine wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, striking early in the first quarter when quarterback Karter Brown…LOGIN TO CONTINUE READING at www.devinenewsmembers.com.
