Arabians still atop District 29-4A after lopsided win

Varsity Arabians #20 Natalie Valle and #12 Oakley Malone prepare for inbound.

Jerel Beaty
Staff Writer
The Arabians had little trouble putting away any thoughts Pleasanton may have had as far as an upset bid against the undefeated District 29-4A leaders. Devine scored in double digits each period while the Eagles never got more than seven in any frame as the Arabians romped 54-19.
Liah Romero, Natalia Valle, and Kylie Monreal each netted double figures going for 14, 12, and 10 respectively. Romero also notched double figures in rebounds with 12.
As one would guess with a 35-point differential, the Arabians led in all major statistical categories as they outshot Pleasanton (48%-18%), scored more points in the paint (42-8), blanked them in transition…

Devine had the opportunity to lift itself further into playoff contention with a victory over Pleasanton last week, their only game of the week due to an odd number of teams in District 29-4A but could not muster a win against the Eagles.
This could be a loss that will come back to haunt the Horses and their playoff hopes as they entered the contest in fourth place in District 29-4A with a record of 2-4. Pleasanton was trailing them with their 1-5 record with the “1” being against Devine in the first round.
The Eagles will now have the outright tiebreaker…
