Kelsey Dishman, Lily Lawless, Gabby Morales, Kaylee Romano, and Brianna Schaefer played Legend’s Golf Course in Kingsland May 6-7 as they took on the best of the rest of Class 4A at the State Golf Tournament.
After winning the District 29-4A championship and finishing third at Regional, Devine placed 12th overall at State as they put their clubs away for the last time for the 2024 season.

Lytle clenches the Bi District Title

The Lytle Pirates celebrated after receiving the trophy for winning the Bi District Title beating the San Antonio West Cougars. They will face Hallettsville on Saturday.

With a playoff game on the line, Lytle rose to the challenge on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the South San Antonio West Cougars a 17-0 shutout. Considering Lytle has won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday’s blowout was nothing new.

Lady Pirate Calyssa Sevier placed sixth in the 400m Dash at the State Track Meet in Austin at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus on the University of Texas.
Head Coach Gilbert Ruiz stated that Calyssa was “competing against a very fast field.  Five of the nine were returning from last year’s 400m race.”

Colt baseball season wraps up ’24 season

Devine put their bats in the rack for the final time this season as they closed out their campaign with ballgames against Pearsall and Lyle before finishing it up at the District Tournament in Devine April 27.

The Gold team put up 13 runs in three innings of play to roll over the Mavericks 13-0. The Colts scored 3 runs in the first and 5 runs each in the second and third innings. The Colts banged out seven hits in the contest.
Ezekiel Simmons and Jayden Rivas each had second hits in the contest. Bentlee Copeland, David Espinosa, and Colt Smith each contributed with one hit a piece.

With track, baseball, and other sports completed, the Warhorse football players hit the field for spring practices and live 7-on-7 competition. Even though they have not fully refamiliarized themselves with quite all the football-lingo just yet, Head Coach Paul Gomez is excited to see most of the 2024 version of Warhorse football back on the field competing for spots and taking on unfamiliar opponents.

Arabians Defeat Coyotes for Area Championship

The Devine Arabian softball team took on Alice Coyotes this past week in a series to secure the Area title. The Arabians swept the series winning game one, 5-4, and game two, 6-1. The Arabians have faced the Coyotes the last three years in play-off’s. This was the first year they were able to beat them to advance to the Regional Quarter Finals.
“Facing Alice again for the third time was a nerve-racking experience but I was confident in my team that we could beat them,” senior Denise Contreras said. “It took a lot from us but we came out on top.”

Arabians beat Rockport Fulton; on to Area Playoffs

Game 1
Arabians headed to playoffs to face the Lady Pirates last week and as Coach Oropeza said “These girls like to raise my blood pressure by coming back to win games at the very last moment.” Indeed both games, Arabians raised that blood pressure. For the first game in the Bi-District series, Rockport Fulton scored early in the second inning holding the Arabians 1-0 until the 5th inning. Junior catcher Airyanna Rodriguez came up to bat to put that first point up by driving one to shortstop bringing in Kelsey Dishman to tie the game in the fifth inning.
