Pirates have strong showing at State Track and Field Meet in Austin

Lytle Pirate runners Jewell Hicks, Jacob Cantu, and Sebastian Garcia earned the right to compete at the UIL State Track and Field Meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin after their outstanding performances at Regional just a couple of weeks ago. As hundreds of athletes hit the track over the weekend showcasing some of the best athletes in Texas, the Lytle Pirates proved they belonged among the elite.
Competing against the top runners in the state, the Pirates delivered memorable performances and represented their school and community with determination, toughness, and honor on the biggest stage high school track has to offer.
Together, Cantu, Hicks, and Garcia gave Pirate fans plenty to celebrate and added another memorable chapter to Lytle’s proud track and field tradition which has now made numerous State appearances over the last few decades…LOGIN TO CONTINUE READING at www.devinenewsmembers.com. Local athletes heading to State!

Devine will be sending 8 athletes to the State Track and Field meet on Thursday, May 14th in Austin at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Representing the Warhorses: Karter Brown, Rowdy Esparza, Bo Wheeler, Alex Garcia-Castillo, Zach Guerra, Mikey Rodriguez, and Ryan Weinkam. Rylie Wells is the sole representative for the Arabians. Back-to-back Area Champs! Pirates take down Poth in series sweep

Lytle baseball continues its historic run by taking down the Poth Pirates in two games for the Area Championship. Game one was a defensive battle until the fourth inning where Lytle got on the board first after an error by Poth. Lytle would capitalize on that momentum and tack on six more runs to win 7-0. Lady Pirates complete ’26 Track and Field season at Regional

Head Coach Gilbert Ruiz and two of his Lady Pirates did all they could to advance to the State Meet in Austin but fell just short of that season-long goal at Regional in Seguin last week.
Senior Klayre Cook made the finals in the 400m Dash after a preliminary time of 1:05.07 that placed her seventh. In the finals Cook shaved over two seconds off her previous time to place sixth with a time of 1:02.98.
Senior Frances Scotello placed sixth in the 3200m Run with a time of 12:17.78.
Congratulations to Klayre and Frances on a tremendous Regional-Qualifying season!

Pirate Track & Field 4th in Region IV;Cantu, Garcia, & Hicks are STATE BOUND!

Ten Pirate Track and Field student-athletes combined to score 28 points at last week’s Class 3A Region IV Meet in Seguin to secure a fourth place finish. There were 34 different schools represented.
Three of those 10 now move on as State Qualifiers after senior Jewell Hicks won the 400m Dash, Jacob Cantu won the 1600m, and Sebastian Garcia earned the Wild Card spot in the 800m Run after finishing third in the region but having the next best qualifying time from across the state.
Others competing at a high level not only at Regional but throughout the 2026 season were Adrian Reyna, Diego Reyna, Clayton Jopling, Noah Smoot, Angel De La Rosa, and Christopher Jacques.

District Champs!! Pirates’ historic season ends with win over Mustangs

The Lytle Pirates baseball regular season comes to an end as the powerhouse team closed out Natalia in five innings, 14-4. With this win over the Mustangs, not only did Lytle seal the district title, they also set a school record for most wins in a season with 23. The Pirates end the season with a perfect district record of 10-0 while not allowing a team to score more than seven runs the entire season(only two teams scored seven runs and it was before district play even began).
The Pirates look ahead to their bi-district matchup against Great Hearts Northern Oaks. All the games will be held at Somerset High School, game one will be on Thursday, April 30 at 7 P.M. 3A Regional Track and Field Schedule of Events

Ten Pirate and two Lady Pirate Track and Field athletes compete May 1-2 in Seguin at the Class 3A Regional Championships. Matador Stadium is located on the campus of Seguin High School.
While not just a ton of spectator information was available on the UIL Regional website, the key takeaway is tickets will be sold at the gate with a $10.00 CASH ONLY per person requirement for entry. No passes are accepted.
