But then, the Fillys fell short in the second set losing 12-25 as Carrizo decided to bring their aggressive play to the court. The 8th grade Colts moved to 2-0 on the young season with their 36-0 blanking of the Mustangs last Thursday in Natalia. Devine led 16-0 after the first quarter of play before cruising to victory from there on out.
Those 16 first quarter points came without the Colt offense even having to take the field as Devine’s defense forced punts on Natalia’s first two possessions.
Punt returner Nate Valle returned the first of his consecutive touchdowns for 60 yards while the next was just a tad shorter from 35 yards out.
Moses Contreras added the first two-point conversion while Jordan Beaver tacked on the second.
Devine’s defense rose to the challenge once again as David Espinosa stepped in front of a Mustang pass attempt to snag an interception.
On the Colts ensuing possession Valle connected with Logan Alexander on an 8-yard touchdown pass. Alexander also…

The 8th Grade Colts A and B teams took wins in their first official action of the season as the A-Team won 12-6 while the B-Team took the 18-0 shutout.
A-Team
According to Coach Michael Sotelo, “The A-team game was to be a ‘David versus Goliath’ match-up as Jourdanton was a team that went undefeated last year as seventh graders.” It was an entertaining game, for sure as it was a nip-and-tuck affair all evening. The Colts found themselves down but definitely not out trailing 6-0, before slaying the Indians with their impressive comeback.
“We were able to get a touchdown from Nate Valle thanks in part to some great blocking by Noah Garcia, Brody Poppe, Troy Guerra, Joe Balderrama, and Jayden Rodriguez that tied the game at six.”

Jerel Beaty
Staff Writer
In an effort to cut down the number of trees cut down for yearly monotonous paperwork, Rank One is online for parents of all student-athletes to either begin or update forms a school district must have on file prior to a student’s first day of practice.
All forms should be ready to fill out on the website listed below, except for the student’s annual physical which must be submitted in person prior to first workout as well.
All coaches and administrators appreciate the time taken to complete all forms and physicals prior to the first actual practice.

DMS Colts/Fillys parent meeting, clothes pickup Aug. 19

Jerel Beaty
Staff Writer
Put August 19 on your calendar if you happen to be the parent of a Devine Middle School Colt or Filly athlete as clothes pickup and a parent meeting occur on that particular day.
Filly athletes can pick up their workout clothes from their respective coaches between the hours of 2pm and 4pm.
Eight grade Colt athletes can get their garb between 2pm and 3pm while seventh grade Colts follow from 3pm and 4pm.
The all-important parent meeting for all DMS athletes begins at 7pm in the DMS cafeteria with breakout sessions for specific sports soon following.
This would be a wonderful time to turn in all medical paperwork in person, as well as a great date to have Rank One paperwork completed online.
If you have any questions, please contact the DMS Office at 830-851-0610.
