Isabel Marie Esquibel

Isabel Marie Esquibel, 53, of Devine, Texas, passed away on June 11th, 2022 after a battle with Breast Cancer.
Isabel was born on December 25, 1968, to Lupe and Maria Martinez in Hondo, Texas. Devine, Texas was where she was raised, got married to her husband, and raised her three children. She is survived by her husband, Roland Garcia Esquibel, children: Jasmine, Andrew, Roland Jr Esquibel, and grandkids: Caleb John Gutierrez, Mia Averi and Andrew Ezekiel Esquibel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lupe Martinez and Maria Chavez, and her brothers, Lazaro and Lupe Martinez.
Isabel loved her family and friends and was always there when they needed a helping hand or someone to talk to. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, resented them, forgave them, and always kept on loving them.
Isabel will be deeply missed by all those that she’s left behind. Our hearts are broken by this loss but take comfort knowing she will always be in our hearts. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Hurley Funeral Home – Devine, 303 West College Ave, Devine, Texas 78016. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church – Devine. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Linda Nicholson

October 9, 1948 ~ June 5, 2022

Linda Nicholson, went to be with the Lord on June 5, 2022, at the age of 73 in Lytle, Texas.
Linda was born on October 9, 1948, in Houston, Texas to James Albert and Melva Lynette Gates.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, James Nicholson and Emmaline Nicholson.
Linda is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Abston Nicholson; son, Joshua Nicholson (Brandy); daughters, Amber Delaney (Jeff) and Rebekah Jank (Wayne); brothers, James Gates (Kathryn) and John Gates (Teresa); sister, Lydia Farrar (Rocky); 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held on June 23, 2022 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Hurley Funeral Home, 14822 Main Street, Lytle, Texas 78052.

Ulysses Grant Jones, Jr.

August 30, 1949 ~ May 25, 2022

Ulysses Grant Jones, Jr., Senior Master Sergeant, Retired, USAF, of Lytle, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at the age of 72.
Commonly known to all by his middle name, Grant passed peacefully, with his wife of 27 years, by his side, after having suffered a massive stroke on May 26, 2022.
Grant was born in Sunshine Station, Harlan County, Kentucky, on August 30, 1949. On November 8, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Lou Lawson. Together they had two daughters, Melissa Sue, and Brenda Kaye.
In January, 1968, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country honorably for 26 years. He spent the majority of his career working and supervising on the flight line as his rank increased, ensuring that the airplanes were flight worthy when they left the ground. Linda passed away in January, 1993, and he retired the following spring from Lackland AFB in 1994.
Grant met his second wife, Rosemary Hord, at the church he attended, and they were married in July, 1994.
Not one to sit still, Grant was active in a variety of positions in his church, ranging from custodian and grounds maintenance to Sunday School Superintendent, visitor follow-up and security. If there was a job needing to be done, he was willing to do it.
Grant was a man of impeccable honesty and integrity, always doing every job to the best of his ability and with excellence, regardless of what it was. He believed in taking care of any problem right away, not waiting until a more convenient time. He was a blessing to everyone around him, and he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ulysses G. Jones, Sr. and Lucy Rose Jones; his first wife, Linda Jones; sister, Sandy Lewis; half-sisters Peggy Fisher and Bobbi Adkins; half-brothers, Billy Joe Jones and Wayne Jones.
Grant is survived by his wife, Rosemary Jones; sister, Christine Lee Pearl Meade (JD); daughters, Melissa Lake and Brenda Whaley; stepson, Aaron Hord (Beth); grandsons, Evan Whaley (Bridget) and Liam Hord; granddaughter, Sierra Lake; and one great-grandson, Jackson Whaley.
A Visitation was held on Monday, June 13, 2022 from 8:30 am until 10:00 am and then a Funeral Service at 10:00 am at Hurley’s Funeral Chapel in Lytle, Texas, after which Grant was transported to Harlan, Kentucky, for services through Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, followed by interment at the Old Creech Cemetery in Wallins Creek, Kentucky.

Virginia Lee Bailey Gates

Virginia Lee Bailey Gates was born on April 29, 1950 in Kellogg, Idaho. She passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022 in Natalia, Texas at the age of 72.
She is survived by her sister Velma Ward of Spokane, WA; Brother James Bailey of Spokane, WA; Daughters, Leigh Anne Watkins, husband Shawn of Natalia, TX; Jolinda Arroyo, husband Chris of San Antonio, TX; 5 grandchildren, Bryan Watkins, Justin Watkins, Jassmyne Watson, Jacob Arroyo and Austen Watkins.
She is preceded in death by her Parents Leonard and Leota Bailey and Brother Dale Bailey.
Virginia was a wonderful mother who was always there for her children. She loved camping and vacationing with her family. She enjoyed coaching at the beginning of her career and teaching English for over 50 years until her retirement. She touched the lives of everyone she ever met.

Margaret Ann Sandoval

Margaret Ann Sandoval passed away on June 06, 2022 in Devine, Texas at the age of 36 years old. She was born in Hondo, Texas to Eloy Saldana Sr. and Maria Mata on July 01, 1985.
She was married to Edgar Flores Sandoval and had two children.
She was a devoted housewife and loving mother.

Teresa “Terri” Lea Blevins

February 3, 1962 ~ May 17, 2022

Teresa “Terri” Lea Blevins, 60, of Lytle, Texas, left this world on May 17, 2022. Terri passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Terri was born on February 3, 1962, to Leslie Blevins and Norma “Suttor” Blevins, in Offutt AFB, Nebraska. Terri spent most of her life in Lytle, Texas, raising her two children, Cassy Harvey and Leslie Aguinaga and her granddaughter, Dakota Blevins.
Terri loved horses, trail rides, country music and above all her family. She spent countless hours as a young teenager, selflessly caring for her ill mother. She was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She had a gentle spirit and the bluest eyes. Her laughter was infectious and her love limitless.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Norma Blevins; brother-in-law, Ken Lee; and her beloved dog’s, Sassy and Missy.

Maria Yolanda Cassiano

Maria Yolanda Cassiano, 66 of Devine, TX, gained her wings on May 27, 2022 in San Antonio, TX. She was born in Eagle Pass, TX to Felix and Antonia Rangel on November 13, 1955. She married Oscar Cassiano in 1978 in Carrizo Springs, TX.
Yolanda is preceded in death by her father Felix Rangel, mother Antonia Rangel and granddaughter Zayra Galindo.
She is survived by her husband Oscar Cassiano, daughters Venessa Rangel and Pete Valdez, Rebecca Cassiano, Melvie Cassiano and Wes Richardson, sons Felix Rangel and Jessica Reyes, Joe Rangel, Jose Mendoza, Oscar Cassiano and Mike Cassiano. She had 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 2pm to 9pm. Prayer services will begin at 7pm at Faith Baptist Church in Devine, TX. located at 575 State Highway 132 N.
Burial services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 10am at the Evergreen Cemetery in Devine, TX.

Violet Virginia Doyal

Violet Virginia Doyal passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at the age of 95. She was born April 17, 1927 in Needville, Texas to the late Lawrence E. and Lena Cloudt Boone. Violet graduated from Richmond High School in 1944, where she was proud to have been a member of the band and the pep squad. She had a brief career in the business world that included working with the first generation of computer punch cards. Her life’s career was doing what she treasured most – loving and caring for her family.
She was an excellent cook, who particularly loved to bake. She loved sewing, raising birds, listening to music, and especially visiting over a hot cup of coffee. Violet had a kind, sweet spirit, a great sense of humor and an endless desire and ability to engage with anyone she met.
In her later years, she treasured the company of her beloved dog, Angel, and enjoyed teaching her tricks. She loved her Lord and Savior and worshipping at Calvary Grace Baptist Church. Violet was cherished by her family and will be carried in their hearts forever.
She is survived by her sister and best friend, Leatrice Wood of Devine, sons, Darrel (Sherra) Gan of San Antonio, Wayne (Debi) Gan of Houston, Dana (Ginger) Gan of San Antonio; stepsons Odis (Carol) Doyal of Llano, Mike (Virginia) Doyal of Sierra Blanca, and Tom Doyal of Austin; nine grandchildren, Shelby Sharrett, Megan Preece, Macey Gan, Kenny Gan, Tony Gan, Tiffany Gan, Eric Gan, Megan Gan and Wesley Gan, seven great-grandchildren and four nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Doyal was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Odis W. Doyal, Sr. of Devine, and sister, Lois Roberson of Dilley.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Calvary Grace Baptist Church at 9:30 a.m. The service was held at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Johnny Melancon officiating. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Eric Gan, Wesley Gan, Aaron Cantu, Benjamin Strus, Joel Melancon and Robert Rodriguez.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Argent Court for their care of Violet, as well as her special friends and loving caregivers Isabella Garcia and Norma Flores. Additional thanks to Vinnie Vinzetta and Jason Eggleston at KENS5, whose telling of Violet’s story gave her immense joy during her final days.

Noe Joel Gonzalez

November 5, 1946 – May 15, 2022

Noe Joel Gonzalez, also known as, “The Mexican Rooster”,  passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022 in Big Foot, Texas, at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 10 days.
Noe was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 5, 1946, to Adan K. Gonzalez and Portiria Perez.  He resided in Corpus Christi, Texas for 22 years.
He was drafted into the Army in 1967.  He served 2 years and left with a rank of E-5.
Noe was also a volunteer with the Big Foot Fire Department for 3 years.  
He was self-employed for 50 years.
Noe leaves behind wonderful memories for all of his friends and family.
May he be with God forever.

Mrs Balbina “Bally” Sanchez

Mrs. Balbina “Bally” Sanchez, a longtime resident of Little Village, Chicago, IL and previous resident of Devine, Texas, passed away on May 19, 2022. Mrs. Sanchez was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 23, 1957.
She is survived by her siblings, Louis Sanchez, and Alicia Rodriguez of Chicago, Illinois, Beatrice Avalos, Yolanda P. Gutierrez and Husband Rick Gutierrez of Devine, Texas and her children Martin Howard, Oso, and Summer, her five grandchildren: Eli and Eliana Howard, Za’riah and Amari Howard and Olivia Rodriguez. Nieces: Erica and husband Daryl L. Schofield, Jr. of Devine, Miranda, Appollonia, and Beatrice Avalos of Devine, Alexandria and husband Juan Blanco of Devine, Texas and Nephew Rudy Rodriguez of Devine, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friend, aunt and godmother to many, she joins in death her parents Soledad Morales and Isaiah Sanchez, Sr., her husband of 27 years Gregory L. Howard, sisters Mary Lu Ruiz, Lydia Perez and Rose Rodgers and brothers Isaiah Sanchez, Jr. and Lucio Sanchez.
Quick to lend a helping hand any way she could, through any trials and tribulations, which there were many, a stern woman with a great sense of humor, a lover of plants and animals, medicine woman, owner of the biggest movie collection this side of Texas. A big heart filled with love to love whoever needed it! She was loved by many and taken from us too soon. We find peace knowing she is no longer feeling the many pains of this world and will be reunited with our lost loved ones joining them to help protect us all from up above.
