Leatrice Alma “Ding Ding” Ehlinger Ahr

Leatrice Alma “Ding Ding” Ehlinger Ahr, of D’Hanis, Texas, passed away peacefully in San Antonio on May 13, 2025 at the age of 95. She was born August 23, 1929 in Devine, Texas, to George Martin Ehlinger and Alma Theresa Neatherlin Ehlinger.
Leatrice grew up in Devine and graduated from Devine High School. On August 29, 1950, she married the love of her life, Carroll Julius Ahr, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devine. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Deborah Carol in 1952. They were fortunate to share forty-seven years of marriage. They enjoyed square dancing, attending Lions Club Conventions, and spending their weekends at the ranch in D’Hanis.
They made their home in Del Rio throughout their married life. While living in Del Rio, Leatrice worked for Painter Bus Lines and then for Capital Aggregates where she was known as “Gravel Gurdy”. When she became a grandmother, her grandchildren affectionately gave her the nickname “Ding Ding” and later on she became known as “Ding Ding” to the community of D’Hanis.
After her husband passed away, she moved to D’Hanis to be close to her family. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends to places including the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and Branson, Missouri. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. She attended as many functions for her great-grandchildren as possible. Ding Ding always went out of her way to let her family know how much she loved them and that she was always praying for them.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ray Harbison of D’Hanis; grandchildren, Cindy Harbers (Brad) of LaGrange, Texas and Clint Harbison (Christina) of D’Hanis; great-grandchildren, Kendal Boyd (Dalton), Tyler Harbison, Drew Harbers, and Trey Harbers; great-great-grandson, Carter Boyd; sister, Lillian Alexander of San Antonio; brother-in-law, Gaylon Davidson of Austin; as well as numerous other relatives, in-laws and friends.
Leatrice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll Ahr; sisters, Mary Heiser (Herman), Annette Whitley (Arth), and Rosie Davidson; and brother-in-law, Velda Alexander; and numerous other relatives and in-laws.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 22, 2025 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D’Hanis, with the Holy Rosary recited at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in D’Hanis, Texas.
Memorials may be made in Leatrice’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch or charity of choice.

Patsy L. Cook

With heavy hearts, family and friends announce the passing of Patsy L. Cook into her heavenly home. Patsy was born in Lytle, Texas on September 5, 1949 and entered eternity on April 20, 2025 at the age of 75.
Patsy resided in the Conroe area for a time but lived most of her life in Lytle. Her family fondly describes Patsy as “very loving and kind; she never met a stranger and she was always laughing, joking and thinking of ways to make others happy. Patsy loved Jesus and shared Him with everyone. She was our prayer warrior. The Cook family has a hole in our hearts that can never be filled on this earth. Patsy’s love and laughter will be forever missed.”
Patsy also loved her Prevailing Word Church family as her own. And, while she was blessed to have numerous relatives and friends who loved her dearly, she made us each feel special by loving us back in a unique way. Patsy faced many deeply difficult circumstances and seasons in her life, but she overcame by standing firm on God’s Word and leaves a legacy of unwavering faith that will continue to inspire us all for years to come.
Patsy is preceded in death by her parents, John and Beulah Cook, her brothers, John and Tommy Cook, her infant sister Grace Emile, and nephew Johnny Cook. She is survived by her aunt, sister-in-law, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Patsy’s life will be held at Prevailing Word Church, 4000 E IH 35 S, Lytle, Texas (830-709-0900) on Saturday, May 17 at 11:00am with a time of fellowship to follow.

James Michael Davis

James Michael Davis, of Moore, Texas, has passed away at the age of 68 with his loving wife Maria by his side.
James loved to travel, hunt, and enjoyed having fun.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carlton and Alice Eva Davis; sisters, Mary Alice Franssen, and Billie Ann Luke. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Maria Aguilar Davis; his brother, Carl Patrick Davis; niece, Denise Michelle; and nephew, Chad Lee. He also leaves behind his loving dog Jake.

Mike Alvarez, Jr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mike Alvarez, Jr., who entered eternal rest peacefully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 89. He was born on April 20, 1936, in New Castle, Texas, to parents Mike Alvarez, Sr. and Candelaria Lopez Alvarez. Mike was a dedicated family man whose love and wisdom shaped the lives of all who knew him.
Mike will be remembered as a gentle and kind person, a steadfast presence in the lives of his loved ones.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years Olga Alvarez; children Mike Alvarez Jr. 2nd and wife, Jenny, Dolores Everett and husband, Bobby, Gerardo Morales and wife, Linda, Juan S. Morales and wife, Elida, Maricruz H. Espinosa and husband, Nestor; twenty grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren; siblings Agnes Barron-Lopez, Asmer Rivers, Anita Mendoza, Johnny Alvarez, Willie Alvarez; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who carry forward his legacy of diligence, responsibility, and kindness.
Mike’s life was a testament to the values he instilled in his family, teaching them the importance of being helpful to each other and showing unwavering loyalty. Memories of countless days spent outside doing yard work, mending fences, and learning the ways of the world through his guidance will forever resonate in the hearts of his loved ones.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents Mike Alvarez, Sr. and Candelaria Lopez Alvarez; daughters Mary Christine Franklin and Marivel Perez; sister Andrea Alvarez Rivers.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mike’s life with warmth and love. A public visitation was held at Primrose Funeral Services in Devine, Texas, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Devine, with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery where we will gather to honor his memory.

Mary Belle Angermiller Howard

Mary Belle Angermiller Howard, age 89 of Devine went to be with her heavenly family on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
Born September 17, 1935, at her paternal grandmother’s home in Sabinal, Texas. She was the daughter of Emmett Lee and Eselda Bee “Sally” Rankin Angermiller. Mary’s humble beginnings included living in a tent with her two older sisters on the Sabinal River. She began her education in Hondo at the age of five and graduated from Hondo High School in 1953. Mary and her brother were baptized and confirmed in the summer of 1950 at the Hondo Methodist Church.
After high school, Mary had a summer job at the Hondo National Bank with plans to attend college in the fall. Jerry Howard walked into the bank one July day and the rest was history! They were married on September 26,1953 at the Hondo Methodist Church. She began her married life as a rancher/homemaker. Jerry trained her to be a custom cattle buyer. They were married for thirty-two years and blessed with five children, three daughters and two sons.
Mary enjoyed volunteering her time while raising their family. She served as a room mother while the children were in elementary school. As a 4-H leader, she excelled in teaching clothing construction and foods and nutrition. The children raised animals for stock show competitions, participated in local, district and state levels of competition in numerous areas of interest all under their mother’s guidance.
She served as a member and officer in Devine Current Events and Garden Clubs. She was named a Lifetime Member by the Texas Garden Club in 2018. Mary belonged to the Methodist Church of Devine, serving as chairman of the administrative board and on various committees. She also participated as a lay reader; attended Women of Faith brunches and was the church secretary.
Some of her other roles include Director of Medina County Fair Association for several years-Sec for two terms and President for one term-and was instrumental in the establishment of the scholarship program; Conservation Homemaker of the Year for the state in 1971; 4-H Leader, named as Distinguished Leader for District 13; First Vice-President Texas 4-H Volunteer Leaders Assoc. 1980-82; Devine School Board member (first woman elected)-President 1978; first woman in Medina Co. selected for Grand Jury and elected foreman; Medina Co. election judge for Devine; first woman to run for Medina Co. Judge as a write-in candidate; founding member of the El Camino Real Wildlife Management Assoc.; participant of American Cancer Society, Relay for Life.

In 1978, Jerry and Mary bought a business in Pleasanton, The Mercantile and Mary served as the bookkeeper. She moved the business to Devine in 1987, two years after Jerry passed away.
Her research of the Howard land culminated in the prestigious state award, The Family Land Heritage Award for farms that have been in operation for a century. Jerry was a fourth generation Howard, and their sons, Scott and John are fifth generation. The award was received in November of 1985.
Mary’s love of the land and her family went hand in hand. Her twinkling blue eyes and wonderful stories will be remembered by many. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, June Tarrodaychik and husband Paul; Virginia Margiotta and husband Harry; brother, Roy Lee ‘Pete” Angermiller and wife Therese ‘Terry’; son-in-law, Craig Mikulenka.
She is survived by her children, Lynda Mikulenka, Deanna Kempen, Karen (Alan) Muennink, Scott (Debbie) Howard, and John (Laura) Howard. She is also survived by grandchildren: Genya (Broc) Laughlin, Benjamin (Sarah) Krieger, Daron Coull, Matthew (Tracy) Kempen, Jessica (Kevin) Sorensen, Jillian (William) Casarez, Jared (Robyn) Muennink, Emmett (Madelyn) Muennink, Holly (Rene) Muniz, Maggie (Dustin) Burleson, Maycee (Reagan) Anderson, Kaylee Howard, Cutter Howard and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 24, at the Howard-Hardcastle Family Cemetery, 752 Co. Rd. 654 Devine, Texas, 78016 at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life will follow at the Black Creek Baptist Church Annex.

Tartly Robert Ferguson, Jr.

Tartly Robert Ferguson Jr. went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, April 25th, 2025, at the age of 89, at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He was born January 3rd, 1936, to Robert and Elda Dubose Ferguson in Caldwell county, Texas. He attended Lockhart High School, and then enlisted in the U.S Army, March 28th, 1955. While there Robert witnessed several atom bomb detonation tests at Yucca Flats, Nevada which earned him the atomic medal award and his 100% service-connected disability.
He left the Army in 1958 and transferred to the Army Reserves where he stayed until March 27th, 1963. Everyone called him Junior including his wife of 51 years, Marie. Junior worked for a while at Gary Aircraft, Nelson Rd San Antonio. He also did some oil field work around Somerset Texas. His final job was a Test Fleet Driver in D’Hanis, Texas. Junior loved farming and growing vegetables which he sold door to door to a lot of grateful customers.
He had a great sense of humor and usually said whatever came to mind, not always what others wanted to hear. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Marie Ferguson and others close to him. He is also survived by his brother, John Ferguson of Greer, S.C., sister-in-law Betty Margaret Ferguson of Rockdale, Texas and Brother-in-law Jim Smith of San Antonio, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elda Ferguson, as well as his siblings Viola Lipscomb, Joe Ferguson, Leo Ferguson, Melba Smith, and Willard Ferguson.

Paul “Scott” Harrison

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul “Scott” Harrison, beloved son, father, and grandfather, who departed this world peacefully on April 24, 2025, at the age of 58. Born on June 21, 1966, in San Antonio, Texas, Scott was a vibrant spirit whose warmth and humor touched the lives of all who knew him.
Scott was not just a devoted family man; he was the heart of his family. Always ready to share a laugh or a good-natured prank, his playful nature brought joy to us all. Scott’s professional life as a legal assistant was marked by his unwavering dedication, yet it was his role as a father and grandfather that he cherished most deeply. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, forever encased in the memories he created for his family.
A true animal lover, Scott found joy and companionship in the many pets who shared his life. His loyal dog, Charlie, along with his cats Basha, Roscoe, and Nell, were not just pets; they were family. These four-legged friends brought countless moments of happiness and comfort, reflecting Scott’s gentle spirit and kindness.
An aficionado of the 80s music that defined his youth, Scott’s eclectic taste resonated with his love for life and its simple pleasures. He found solace in the rhythmic songs of the past, and he delighted in trips to New Orleans and Seattle as often as he could go.
Scott’s life was a beautiful blend of love, laughter, and adventure, and his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He is survived by his mother, Jane Harrison, who remains a steadfast beacon of love and strength. He is also survived by his son Andrew Harrison and his wife, Mandana, granddaughter Helena, and numerous cousins and friends. Scott is preceded in death by his father Ronald Temple Harrison, and grandparents Paul Temple Harrison, Georgie Conover Harrison, Willie Marshall Brown, and Lala L. Brown.
Services and ceremonies in celebration of Scott’s life will take place on Monday, May 5, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Natalia, 301 Pearson Street, Natalia, Texas 78059 with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. and Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 A.M. interment will follow at Moore Memorial Cemetery. We will come together in love and gratitude, remembering not just the man Scott was, but the joy he spread and the lives he touched.
In these moments of remembrance, may we find peace in our shared love and admiration for Scott, and may his laughter continue to echo in our hearts for years to come. Rest in peace, dear Scott. You will be missed, but never forgotten.

Lt. Col. Glenn Frank Hoffman, USA (Ret.)

Lt. Col. Glenn F. Hoffman, age 92, passed peacefully on April 10, 2025. Born in Somerset, Texas, he was the son of Frank Herman and Effie May (Chapman) Hoffman. A standout athlete in Somerset, Glenn earned honors in football, pole vaulting, and track. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was named a Distinguished Military Graduate. He served 28 years in the U.S. Army, including as a Helicopter Commander in Vietnam, earning decorations such as the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Glenn married Dera Lillian Hanson of Cuero, TX, in 1953, beginning a loving 71-year partnership. After retiring, they owned and operated Honeybranch Farm in Lytle, TX, for 20 years before settling in San Antonio. Glenn was known for his deep faith, quick wit, and devotion to family and country.
He is survived by his wife, Dera Lillian; children Annette McCaughtry (Bob), Glenda Hoffman, and David Hoffman (Sandra); grandsons Jason (Lupe) and Ashton (Megan); and great-grandsons Jackson and Matthew. He is preceded in death by their infant daughter, Mary Beth, son John Paul, his parents, sister Kathryn Hoffman Hicks (husbands Carl & Arnold), sister Helen Ruth Hoffman Baxter (husband David), brothers Herman Hoffman (wife Joyce), Kenneth Hoffman (wives Norma Dean & Ora Lea), and Adolph Hoffman (wife Patsy).
Services will be held Monday, May 5, 2025, at Ft. Sam Houston Natl. Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., followed by a “Celebration of Life” service at Fellowship of San Antonio. Augustine ‘Augie’ Guajardo III

Augustine ‘Augie’ Guajardo III, our beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend was called to be with the Lord on April 17, 2025 at the age of 64.
Augie, a dedicated hardworking man, faithful Catholic whose heart was larger than anyone we knew, was the embodiment of a gentleman. He was devoted to his family and his church. Born on October 8, 1960, in San Antonio. When he was brought home, he fit into a shoe box and grew into a man who was loved and respected by all that knew him.
He was raised on his family’s ranch, where he played with the many family dogs, which he loved deeply. His parents instilled in him the values of deep faith, hard work, and commitment to family.
Augie graduated from Southwest High School, where he was an outstanding athlete lettering in many sports. His strength was in football, where he earned the nickname ‘’the snake” for his ability to weave through the field as a running back. His entire family – parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins – would travel near and far to see him play. His giving heart and friendly nature earned him countless friends and the titles of homecoming king, class favorite, and prom king.
Augie is survived by his loving wife of twenty-five years, Debbie Guajardo; mother, Isabel; children, Paul (Susy), David (Gregory), Christa (Addison); grandchildren, Kylie, Sophie, Skylar, Devin, Evelyn, and Charles; siblings, Yvonne Gutierrez (Alex), David, Sebastian (Xavier), Delfino (Patricia), aunts and uncle, Delfino and Janie Saucedo, Gloria Saucedo, and Dolores Guajardo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Augustin Guajardo Jr. and his grandparents.
Throughout his life, Augie was a faithful and devoted member of the Catholic Church. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy in his youth. He was a hard worker and held jobs at numerous groceries; ultimately, he proudly worked at Sam’s Warehouse for over 35 years, where he was awarded numerous recognitions.
Visitation was Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home with the Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial was at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery in La Coste.
Memorials may be made in Augie’s memory to the Our Lady of Grace Building Fund.
