Serve and Succeed: The 2023 theme of the Wreaths Across America mission

For the second year the Current Events Club is excited to bring the Wreaths Across America (WAA) program to Devine Evergreen and St. Joseph Catholic cemeteries. This year’s ceremony and placement of wreaths on veteran graves will take place on Saturday morning, December 16, at 11:00 o’clock at the ceremony oak where the event was held last year. Join us as we participate in a program that spans across our nation and around the globe to honor our men and women in the armed forces.

Friendship Art Club show

The Friendship Art Club gathered an enthusiastic group of artists, craftsmen and student artists to open the gates to Fall. Twenty-two booths and venders mingled with each other and a cheerful crowd. Food trucks provided Italian ice and homemade tortillas, while colorful artwork was displayed inside the Lytle Community Center Saturday morning.

Over $20,000 raised during 1st Angels in the Fairway Tourney for scholarships in memory of 3 classmates of DHS 2006

1st place winners of the Angels in the Fairway Golf Tourney Jolly Shackelford, Jay Dishman, Johnathan Gelinas, and Colin Dishman. The scholarship tourney was hosted in the memory of classmates Sam Buvinghausen, Dillion Burleson and Jacob Sanchez, all of the DHS Class of 2006. Congratulating them are Mr and Mrs Buvinghausen and Dillion’s mom Candace DeJesus.

Texas Commemorates National Hunting and Fishing Day this Saturday, Sept. 23

AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is encouraging Texans to bring their family and friend into the outdoors to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day on Saturday. National Hunting and Fishing Day, celebrated on the fourth Saturday of every September, recognizes hunters and anglers for their contributions and leadership to wildlife and conservation.

Madison Hightower, an adviser of the program, said Natalia’s FFA is involved in many livestock shows across Texas where students show their animals to be judged. These animals must be registered by the state to compete.

Update on Vaccines

COVID vaccines are out again and currently you can choose between Moderna vaccine or Pfizer vaccine. The bivalent COVID vaccine is no longer available. We had a few people come in asking for it this week. We have moved on to updated COVID vaccines that should provide better coverage for current strains. If you choose to get the vaccine and have insurance or Medicare check with your pharmacy or your doctor’s office for current stock.

Medina County Hospital District Auxiliary 2023 Volunteer of the Year – Phyllis French

The Auxiliary at the Medina Healthcare System is an amazing group of ladies that have many commonalities, but all share the desire to give back to the community they live in. Each day the Auxiliary members dedicate a few hours of their day volunteering at the Medina Regional Hospital Gift Shop. This shop is volunteer led and all profits go back to the healthcare system to use for strategic investments or initiatives.

“I never saw it coming”….How one Cancer survivor hopes to help others by sharing her story

On January 25th, I was diagnosed with high grade serious carcinoma ovarian cancer, stage 1C3. I never saw it coming. This is my story:
My name is June Salazar. I am from LaCoste, Texas but have lived in the Devine area for almost 12 years. I am 43 years old, married to Bryan Lorenz, and have three children – ages 19, 18 and 9 .
