The Luna Family Circus will be in Natalia on Tuesday, July 26 and Wednesday, July 27 near city hall, at 2079 State Hwy 132. There will be one show each day starting at 7:30 pm. Ticket Price is $10.00 per adult – and children get in free with an adult.
There will be jugglers, a balancing act, clowns, acrobats, a magic act, and a Sponge Bob character is also part of the show. The family circus act is based out of Houston.
The show is about an hour and a half long, and seating is under the big top circus tent.
“People love our clowns and kids love the our performing puppy,” Jo Luna said. “He is still in training, but I bring him out and the kids love him.”
It’s almost time for the monthly farmer’s market featuring the lots of homegrown and homemade goodies by local farmers, artisans, and more. It will be held from 9am-3pm at the Devine Community Center this Saturday, July 2.
Like many local farmers and artisans, the Scantlin family loves being part of the monthly market, selling their homemade jellies and jams
“I love the variety of items that we have at this market. Jams, jellies, canned goods, baked goods, fresh veggies, handmade jewelry, soaps, handmade decor and craft items, plants, lavender products, handmade wooden cutting boards, fresh processed meats, honey, herbal teas, and more,” Mrs. Laurie Scantlin said.
Laurie and her husband Scott Scantlin make 45 awesome flavors of homemade jams and jellies as well as candied jalapenos, pickled onions, jalapeno syrup and prickly pear syrup.
“We offer 5 lavender jams/jellies made with fresh culinary lavender from Doe-Re-Mi Lavender Farm in Moore, TX,” Scott and Laurie Scantlin said. “The Mango-Jalapeno is a customer favorite. Our newest flavor is Tropical Sunrise and we completely sold out of it at the last market.”
They offer 8 different pepper jellies, and several specialty jams/jellies such as carrot cake, chocolate-covered cherry, apple pie, cinnamon candy kiss, as well as plenty of regular fruit jams and jellies.

“We’re always coming up with new flavors,” Mrs. Scantlin said. “We’ve been making homemade jams and jellies for family and friends for many years, and once the Texas Cottage Food laws made things easier for home producers; we started our small business in late 2019. The two of us work together to make all our products from scratch in our home kitchen,” the Scantlins said. “We always offer FREE SAMPLES of our products at the markets, so our customers can try before they buy to make sure they are getting something they’ll enjoy.”
Local candlemaker, Sarah Banks, will be there with her homemade candles and wax melts as well. Making her own scents, “Country Boots and Strawberry Leather are definitely customer favorites,” she said.

The 32nd annual Devine Lions Club Tournament will be Saturday, June 4 at the Devine Golf Course. The format is a three-person Florida Scramble with tee-off time at 10:00 AM.
The Lions Club would like to thank Brown Chevrolet for donating $600 for 1st place, Chaparral Ford for donating $400 for 2nd place, and American Momentum Bank for donating $240 for 3rd place.

This tournament is the only fundraiser for the Devine Lions Club. All money made in this tournament goes back to the schools and community of Devine. Without the help of businesses and the community, this tournament would not be a success.
Mission Devine will be beginning it’s work week next week, and invite the community to offer support.
The work week will last from June 6th through the 11th. Everyone is invited through sponsorship, partnership, or volunteering your time in whatever way you can help. Any kind of support is appreciated

UVALDE, TX – Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) today released the following statement after President Joe Biden’s visit to Uvalde following the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School last week:
“Today, I welcomed the President of the United States to my district to grieve with the Uvalde community,” said Congressman Gonzales. “While joining in prayer and mourning with the victims’ families, we had an open, honest conversation about the realities this community is facing and will continue to face if significant investments are not made in Texas.
Improving access to in-patient behavioral and mental healthcare, strengthening inter agency communication and response time, and expanding rural broadband for tele-health are a few of the solutions I proposed today. I look forward to leading a comprehensive strategy with my colleagues in Congress, the Executive Branch, and anyone willing to work for solutions, so we can heal this community and prevent another senseless tragedy.”
Congressman Gonzales joined President Biden for a visit to Robb Elementary School, mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and meetings with first responders.
The Annual Memorial Day Ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 29th 2022 at 7:30 pm. at the Veterans Memorial Monument in Natalia, Texas. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance of all service members who were Killed In Action during a time of war. The ceremony will be short event of prayer, music and the reading of all the names of those service members who paid the ultimate for their country. Everyone is invited to attend, please bring your own lawn chairs as there will be no seating provided.
The Lytle Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that the big Food Truck Rally ? Miriam Lovelace Scholarship Fund will be happening on Saturday, May 21 in Lytle from 11 to 7pm. You can expect to find close to a dozen food trucks with lots of tasty treats to try.
Right now they have pizza, bbq, chicken, shaved ice, and funnel cakes to name a few. There have been some cancellations so there are some openings. If you know of anyone with a food truck please pass along the message and have them contact President Brad Beazer at 830-391-8107 or look on the Greater Lytle Chamber of Commerce website for information or to sign up a food truck.
There will also be live music and a DJ at the event. Headliner country artist Matthew Ryan will play from 5-7pm.
There will also be a drawing with some great prizes as well.
The annual event is lots of fun and raises money for local students, it is a big evnet at the high school parking lot that draws over 1,000 people.
Bigfoot VFD is hosting a Community Awareness Event on Saturday, May 21 from 9am – noon at the Bigfoot Fire Station, 13988 FM 472. Come out to the fire station to find out about business services that are available in the local area as well as services provided by Frio County and local utility providers. Visit with Frio County candidates, check out the fire trucks, try out a fire hose.
Medina Electric Coop will have a very interesting live line trailer demonstration at 10am.
Methodist AirCare will fly in at 11 am and you can tour and take photos with the medical helicopter.
