Johnny Alvarez, Rudy Cepeda, William Davalos, Sebastian Garcia, Chase Guevara, Bryan Montes-Rodriguez, Brandon Obando, and Abel Sanchez represent Pirate Track and Field at this weekend’s Regional Meet in Seguin at Matador Stadium. At Regional, the top two finishers from each event advance to the State Meet in Austin Thursday, May 2.
The Pirates placed third as a team with 94 points, trailing only champion Jourdanton who posted 134 and Poth who netted 102.
Sanchez and Montes-Rodriguez tied for fourth place as far as total points scored for their team as each raked in 20 points each. Alvarez was right behind those two as he tallied 18 points to tie for…

Lady Pirates 4th at Area Track

Cook, Lopez, Reveira, Scotello, & Sevier are Regional Qualifiers

Klayre Cook, Svetlana Lopez, Laleina Reveira, Frances Scotello, and Calyssa Sevier represent Lady Pirate Track at this weekend’s Regional Meet at Matador Stadium in Seguin. At Regional, the top two spots advance to State in Austin Thursday, May 2.
The Lady Pirates placed fourth as a team with 63 points at last week’s Area Meet in Jourdanton as they trailed only champion Poth, runner-up Hondo, and third place Crystal City.
Amazingly, Lytle did this with the lowest number of participants between each of the top four teams.

May 11th benefit for Dollars for Scholars

The Devine Wesleyan Fellowship will be holding their Spring Fundraiser on May 11 to raise funds for Dollars for Scholars. We will be serving pulled pork, cole slaw, green beans and a drink for $12. The meal will be served at the Community Center starting at 11am until 2pm or sold out with eat in or takeout available. All proceeds from the meal will go to Dollars for Scholars.

Aimee Carr, Kynedie Cruz, Maddie DuBose, Kourtni Geyer, Kylie Monreal, Savannah Parker, and Brooke Thompson represent the Arabian Track Team at this weekend’s Regional Meet in Kingsville. At Regional, the top two spots from each competition advance to the Thursday, May 2 State Meet in Austin.
Devine placed third overall in last week’s Area Meet in Port Lavaca as they scored 73 points to place behind champion Rockport-Fulton and runner-up Beeville Jones.

Medina commissioners approve legal agreement to protect historic courthouse

Medina County Judge Keith Lutz cast the tie-breaking vote Monday on whether the county would grant the Texas Historical Commission a “preservation easement” as a condition of receiving a courthouse preservation grant.
“In my opinion we are putting another person at the table with us when it is time to make decisions about the courthouse,” Lutz said.
In March Medina County commissioners unanimously approved the intermediate step in a three-phase program to qualify for a potential $10 million in state funding to renovate the county courthouse in Hondo. That application was submitted to the THC April 5.

Live It and Not Just Hear It

An incident occurred recently at our Worship Service one Sunday morning that struck a certain chord in me and the result of that situation and my reaction to it caused the idea for this Tale to come about.
The Boss Lady and I were sitting there enjoying the singing and looking forward to the Message/Lesson when one of our Security Team Members touched me on the shoulder and said come with me. Now this Big Ole Boy is someone I think the world of, so I immediately jumped, or maybe more like stumbled up, and quickly followed him out.

Fiestas

My husband used to say that he never saw a bunch of women, like his wife and daughters who could celebrate their birthdays quite as long as we did. Yes, even though my party was on the 30th, this past Tuesday, my sister and some friends and I went out for dinner for my birthday! We went to a local Mexican Restaurant; my friend had arranged ahead of time that “Happy Birthday” would be sung.

City of Devine elections underway

The City of Devine will hold its General Election on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at City Hall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Additional early voting hours will be held Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and April 29 and 30 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Voting will take place in Devine Municipal Building, 303 S. Teel Drive Devine, TX 78016.
The District 3 race will be between the incumbent Stacy Pyron and candidate Jeff Miller. The District 1 race will be between the incumbent Rufino Vega and candidate Ray Gonzales.
