A bunch of games in a relatively short amount of time has the Arabians sitting at 17-11 on the season with a little over a week until District 29-4A action is served up against Uvalde. Devine has played the most competitive schedule possible as they prepare to make a run at not only a district championship, but subsequent playoff championships as well.
Devine badgered Karnes City 2-0 (25-10, 25-13), went down to San Antonio Christian 0-2 (16-25, 23-25), lost to MacArthur 1-2 (14-25, 25-18, 23-25), dusted Industrial 2-0 (28-26, 25-15), lost to Marshall 0-2 (22-25, 19-25), beat Taft 2-1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-22), got scratched by Navarro 0-2 (10-25-25-27), trounced Taft 2-0 (25-19, 25-22), and lost to Gregory Portland 0-2 (24-26, 21-25).
“We were up and down the entire tournament, or it seemed like it anyway,” said Head Coach Leigh Anne McIver. “We had some great wins, and played extremely well against the bigger schools. We let up at times where I really expected us to excel.”
Many if not all of those teams will get into the 2023 playoffs. Playing this level of competition on makes the Arabians more playoff ready once that part of the season comes around.
Of the 20 sets played over the course of three days, only three saw the Arabians defeated by more than 10 points.
“I am looking forward to improving these last three games before district season starts,” McIver said in closing.
