The Lady Mustangs won the championship at their “Heart of a Mustang” Volleyball Tourney again this year in memory of lifelong fan Trudy Smith. They really had to fight in most of the games to pull out the win, down in the second game several times and having to fight back to win the third set or overtime.
“This tourney is really special to us. We host it in memory of Mrs. Trudy Smith, who was one of our biggest fans. I’m really proud of how our girls competed and defended the championship title,” said Coach Tara Cortinas. “We have 8 seniors, 5 juniors, and one sophomore on our team. Next up, Devine tourney!”, she said. Natalia will play on Thursday and Saturday in the pool tourney in Devine. On Thursday they will play at 11, 12 and 3pm in the DSAC.
They are now 5-0 on the season with their fifth win in a row, all at home which is always more fun.
Natalia defeated Pearsall in 25-15 and 25-28 in the championship match up Saturday morning, August 17.
On the first day of the tourney Natalia defeated Dilley, Medina and Knippa on Thursday.
The Dilley games were very close with scores of 25-18, 24-26 and 25-23.
Medina was a good matchup too ending with 25-12, 15-27 and 25-14.
Next the Lady Mustangs knocked out Knippa in two games, 25-18 and 25-10.
And in the final round of the tourney took control of Pearsall with games of 25-15 and 25-18 to take the championship.
