Thirty years of great music in Devine Area Artists’ Series

While the first DAAS concert of the season will be held at the Devine Student Activity Center, the rest will be held in the George S. Woods Community Center.

The Devine Area Artists’ Series is proud to be celebrating 30 years of bringing exceptional musicians and concerts to our area. In October of 1989, the first of a 4 concert season opened in the newly renovated George S. Woods Community Center in Devine. Luckily, the vision of the series’ founders has had a long lasting effect on this area and those attending the Devine Area Artists’ Series. The concerts have become a tradition for many residents in our area. This season is sure to live up to all those before it.
The first concert will not only feature inspirational music, but will allow concert goers a chance to give back to the community. Christian Country Music is a group of award winning musicians who frequently perform concerts for local charities. Of the 6 piece band, two, Roy West and Mark Weatherston, are well known in this area. The other 4 band members are professional musicians from Austin. This will be a free concert with donations at the door to benefit Mission Devine. DAAS will contribute a donation for each season ticket stub given at the door. This concert will be held at the Devine Student Activity Center located at 1225 West Highway 173 between the high school and middle school campuses. This will be the only concert this season held at this location.
The Christmas concert will be performed by the Almost Patsy Cline Band. The Series is excited to have these talented musicians back with us again. This concert will be held on December 14 with door prizes and memorabilia and will feature college musicians playing before the concert and at the intermission.
On February 8 the San Antonio show band, Colao, will rock the Center!
Completing the season on March 28 will be the popular Haywire Bluegrass Band from Kerrville.
All concerts begin at 7:30 pm and all but the first will be held at the George S. Woods Community Center in Devine. The first concert will be held in the auditorium in the same building as the Gym in the new Devine Student Activity Center. The Center is located on the street beside the high school.
The first concert is free. All donations at the door will be given to Mission Devine, an organization whose Mission Statement is: “To demonstrate and portray the love of Jesus Christ in a visible and tangible manner, to the people of the Devine area, through benevolence projects, with a particular focus on home repair and property improvement.”
Season tickets may be purchased for $25 at the first concert or from underwriters of the series. For more information call Melody Riou at 210-625-1586 or Kay Shultz at 210-213-4802.
