8th Grade Colts sweep Owls

8th Gold Colts
It was a great night of basketball for the 8th grade Gold Colts with their win over Hondo on Monday night. Trailing 14-11 at the half, the Colts came out with impressive determination and a 10-0 run to take a 21-14 lead. Hondo and Devine battled back and forth for the lead the rest of the game. But it was Devine that came out on top 29-28.
“We had great defense, especially from Enrique Midobuche and Lokey Aguero, who both had key steals and rebounds. In the fourth, Noah Macias and Jacob Billalobos hit big 3’s for us to edge out a good Hondo team,” said Coach Lon Cozby.
Jacob Antu scored 7 points, Thomas Mendoza 6, Noah Macias 5, Ryan Connor 2, Juan Billalobos 2, Rylan Mata 3, Samuel Mills 2, and Enrique Midobuche 2.
8th Maroon Colts
The 8th Grade Maroon Colts beat the Hondo Owls Monday night in an aggressive game. Hondo’s strong press made the Colts adjust and work hard. “I was very proud of the composure throughout the game from the kids. Big difference a few more practices show. Our defense had multiple steals which lead to easy fast break points. Caden Hanson has a great knack for getting open making a bunch of key buckets. Jaiden Burford did a great job of breaking the press early,” said Coach Cozby.
With a final score of 46-40 the Maroon Colts are 1-1 for the season. Caden Hanson scored 12 points, Jaieden Burford 8, Kaiveri Alvarez 6, Aiden Zapata 6, Nate Ramirez 5, Jathon Razo 4, Joaquin Philippi 3, and Gabriel Lopez 2.
The Colts will face Pearsall on December 6th and then compete in the Hondo Tournament on December 8th.
