Jerel Beaty Staff Writer Devine Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach Jim Sessions encourages all incoming 7th grade through senior athletes to participate in the Arabian/Filly Summer Strength and Conditioning and Sport Specific Skills Sessions this summer.
Jerel Beaty Staff Writer “If you want to be great, you have to first PREPARE YOURSELF FOR GREATNESS!!!!” was Devine Head Football Coach Paul Gomez’s words to incoming and current Colt and Warhorse athletes as the summer workout program commences Monday, June 10 running through Thursday, July 18. If the schedule looks slightly different than summers passed, it is because it has been tinkered with just a tad.
Incoming 7th through 12th Graders will workout Monday through Thursday on the weeks of June 10-13, June 17-21 and July 8-11. Warhorse/Colt Workouts 9-10:30 am – Boys strength and conditioning 10:45-11:45 am – Football 12-12:45 pm – Boys Basketball and Baseball July 15-18 workouts will begin at 1 pm because Warhorse Football camp will be held in the mornings. This is the schedule for July 15-18: 1-2:30 pm – Boys strength and conditioning 2:30-3:30 pm – Football 3:45-4:45 pm – Boys Basketball and Baseball
Devine Tennis Camp starts Monday, June 10 and runs through Thursday, June 13. Parents can register students through HomeTownTicketing. Cost of the camp is $55 and students will receive a camp shirt that is included in the price. Incoming 1st-5th graders will be 8-9:30am. Incoming 6th-9th graders will be 9:30-11:30am. Be sure to bring water in a water container, sunscreen, and a hat! We look forward to seeing everyone at the courts!
Jerel Beaty Staff Writer Devine Head Tennis Coach Mark Feltner released his summer workout schedule for those involved in Arabian and Warhorse tennis as well as middle school Colt and Filly tennis. Nine dates listed below with start and finish times from 6:00pm until 8:00pm as well as another date on a July morning gives those returning from this past season a chance to hone their skills with more individual training time. Fall Tennis has become a big-time sport since its inception quite a few years ago, while spring tennis continues to be extremely popular among those in both high school and middle school. Congratulations to Coach Heath Poppe for being selected as one of the head coaches along with two of his seniors for the San Antonio Area Baseball Coaches Association Senior game. Coach Heath Poppe is in his 25th year coaching and teaching. He has 4 years as head coach (2 in Jourdanton/ 2 Devine). He has 46 career wins and was 2016 THSCA Assistant Coach of the year under George Villa.
