Seth De Leon continues his pursuit to state competition as he lifted his way to first place in the 148lb Division in Natalia last Wednesday evening. De Leon is currently sitting alone in second place overall in both the region standings and in the state rankings for the Lightweight Division.
Devine placed fourth as a team at the Mustang Invitational, but the scoring was as tight as a weight suit in this one as three points is all that separated champion Natalia (37) to fourth place Devine (34)….

On Tuesday night, the Mustangs traveled down I-35 to take on the Dilley Wolves. Looking to improve to 2-0 in district, the Mustangs came out red hot and jumped out to an 11-2 lead and would continue to build on it as they would end the 1Q up 23-5. Jordan Roberts and Peyton Alderete would both knock down two three-pointers in the quarter. Jordan Roberts would lead the way in the 1Q as he scored 13 1Q points. Natalia Girls Powerlifting – Fourteen of the 21 Arabian powerlifters that earned 2nd place in Natalia recently.

The Lady Mustangs got to keep the championship hardware in Natalia as they were the overall team champions January 17 at their home meet.
Natalia racked up 42 points to top runner up Devine who finished with 34 points. Uvalde was third with 32 points.
Weight class champions were Karianna Sanchez in the 105lb division, Araceley Segovia in the 198lb division, and Olivia Velasquez in the 242lb division.

The Horses have something to play for as they enter the second round of District 29-4A sitting in the fourth and final qualifying state playoff spot in league standings.
The way things played out is Devine beat Uvalde Tuesday, January 16 then pulled off a huge victory against Carrizo Springs Friday, January 19 that took them from 0-4, bottom-of-the-barrel, looking-up-at-everyone-else to wholly-smokes, we-are-in-full-playoff-pursuit-mode the rest of the season!
The Horses began the second round against Pleasanton Tuesday, January 23.

Devine entered last night’s game at Pleasanton still sporting their undefeated District 29-4A record at 8-0 after wins last week against Carrizo Springs and Uvalde.
Head Coach Jim Sessions after last week’s games stated, “The girls are really starting to come together and are playing well right now!”
There are big district games still to be played, each of which could have huge implications on where the Arabians finish in the overall standings going into the state playoffs.

Devine did not come out with advantages in many of the key statistical categories in this one, but they did come out on top of the most important one which is the final score as they defeated the Lady Cats 54-44 after outscoring them by nine points in the second half.

Pirates clip Owls, drop decision vs Javelinas

Lytle was unable to follow up their solid road win in Hondo with a victory against Crystal City the following ballgame.

Lytle pulled out a huge win in Hondo January 16 that ran the Pirates record to 19-5 overall and 2-0 in District 28-3A. Head Coach Jacob Hernandez’s squad was in for a tough one all night long but was able to pull out the 55-47 win.
Even though the offense may have had an off night, Hernandez is thankful the defense was steady throughout and that they were able to secure the important victory.

The 7th grade Colts split the pair of games with visiting Carrizo Springs on a rare Wednesday night affair. The B-Team began the night losing a close one, while the A-Team put away the Wildcats with a big fourth quarter.
A-Team
A strong, close-out fourth quarter propelled the 7th grade A-Team to victory over Carrizo Springs 34-26. Tied at 22 after three complete periods of play, Devine simply dominated the last seven minutes outscoring the Wildcats 12-4 to claim the thrilling victory in front of their home crowd.

7th Colts thump Bulldogs

The 7th grade Colts started their second round of district identically to how their season began with huge wins by both the B and A teams over Bandera. The only difference was this time their victories came on the road, and there were no pregnant mamas in the parking lot looking to start a fight after the game. If you know, you know.
