The 7th A Fillys defeated Pearsall 34-10 on December 5, but it was not a cake-walk like the final score shows, according to Coach Kara Stacy.
“A number of forced plays and unfinished layups made for a slower start in this game,” Stacy stated. “Once we were finally able to stay patient on offense as well as playing solid defense, the girls were unstoppable!”
Juliana Rivas and Lilliana Rodriguez combined for 20 points as each finished with 10 points. Rebekah Boehme, Leighton Williams, Alexandria Camacho, and Brooke Stacy also got into the scorebook.
Allesandra Zamora and Juliana Rivas set the tone on the glass as each snatched 4 rebounds while Lilliana Rodriguez grabbed 6 steals and Brooke Stacy added 4.

The 8th Fillys trounced Pearsall December 5, picking up wins by both the A and B teams.
B vs Pearsall
After falling behind 12-6, it was all Devine as they cruised to the 36-16 win on Sessions’ Court inside Devine Student Activity Center on December 5.
Megan Miles scored 22 points to lead the way offensively, scoring 6 points in each of the first three quarters.
Madelynn Mitchell added 4 points as did Rubie Weyel while Angeline Stafford, Jillian Brumage, and Bella Perez each made a two-point shot.
Pearsall got out to a good start scoring-wise as they put in 12 of their 16 points in the first quarter.
“We got out to a slow start in the first quarter,” stated Coach Leigh Anne McIver. “We missed a lot of close range shots and were not playing transition defense.”
After the break between the opening quarters, McIver and her team buckled down defensively and allowed only 4 points the rest of the way.
“In the 2nd quarter it was a totally different story as we picked it up and never looked back.”
Pearsall managed one basket in the second quarter…

A long, business-like bus drive to Blanco turned into a short, celebratory one on the way back as the 8th grade Colts improved their season record to 4-0 with their 46-6 pasting of the Panthers.
According to Coach Aaron Sotelo, “We started off fast and never took our foot off the gas through all four quarters!”
The big guys up front provided the blocking needed for Moses Contreras to get the game’s first touchdown from 22 yards.
“Elijah San-Miguel, Noah Garcia, Brody Poppe, Troy Guerra, Ezekiel Simmons, and Jayden Rodriguez did a fantastic job all night long on the offensive front.”
Devine’s 6-0 lead was about to get padded as they recovered their own kickoff in Blanco territory.
“After Moses’ touchdown our kickoff team showed amazing effort getting down the field as AJ Artiaga recovered the kickoff at the Panthers 28 yard line to give the offense the ball with great field position.”
Three plays later, Nate Valle hit pay-dirt to bump Devine’s lead to 12-0.
For the second time in the game, Devine was able to jump on a…

The 8th grade Colts moved to 2-0 on the young season with their 36-0 blanking of the Mustangs last Thursday in Natalia. Devine led 16-0 after the first quarter of play before cruising to victory from there on out.
Those 16 first quarter points came without the Colt offense even having to take the field as Devine’s defense forced punts on Natalia’s first two possessions.
Punt returner Nate Valle returned the first of his consecutive touchdowns for 60 yards while the next was just a tad shorter from 35 yards out.
Moses Contreras added the first two-point conversion while Jordan Beaver tacked on the second.
Devine’s defense rose to the challenge once again as David Espinosa stepped in front of a Mustang pass attempt to snag an interception.
On the Colts ensuing possession Valle connected with Logan Alexander on an 8-yard touchdown pass. Alexander also…

The 8th Grade Colts A and B teams took wins in their first official action of the season as the A-Team won 12-6 while the B-Team took the 18-0 shutout.
A-Team
According to Coach Michael Sotelo, “The A-team game was to be a ‘David versus Goliath’ match-up as Jourdanton was a team that went undefeated last year as seventh graders.” It was an entertaining game, for sure as it was a nip-and-tuck affair all evening. The Colts found themselves down but definitely not out trailing 6-0, before slaying the Indians with their impressive comeback.
“We were able to get a touchdown from Nate Valle thanks in part to some great blocking by Noah Garcia, Brody Poppe, Troy Guerra, Joe Balderrama, and Jayden Rodriguez that tied the game at six.”
