The equivalent of a major league pitcher taking a perfect game into the final out of a baseball game but not getting that final out on a close call at first base on a routine grounder is almost similar to a high school Team Tennis squad winning 20 of the first 21 matches but unable to secure that closing set is exactly what Devine Head Coach Kandi Darnell and her band of heavy swingers did on August 5 as the Warhorses and Arabians opened their 2026 campaign with a near perfect 20 to 1 victory over not yet opened Medina Valley Creek View High School on the Cougars brand spanking-new home courts over in San Antonio.
It took longer to write that 116 word opening sentence than it did for most Warhorses and/or Arabians in disposing their Cougar-counterparts rather methodically as Devine opened its District 28 season 1-0 while Creek View drops to 0-1.
“Coach Zac Valenzuela and I have been preparing our players for this match in particular, and the players came through by playing extremely well overall,” Darnell said after their near-perfect conquering of the Cougars.
