Wayne H. Stroud entered eternal rest on March 4, 2017 at the age of 81. He was born on July 31, 1935 to Lester H. and Doris (Hardin) Stroud in San Antonio, TX.
Wayne participated in rodeos in high school and in 1954 qualified in the bareback riding in Hallettsville, TX for the National High School Finals in Rapid City, SD. He competed in the bareback riding, bull riding, and steer wrestling. He was a member of the SRA (Southwestern Rodeo Association) and joined the RCA (Rodeo Cowboy Association) in the 1950’s. He had a team of steer wrestling horses and traveled to major and amateur rodeos. A lot of the steer wrestlers rode his team of horses. Wayne had a lot of good horses, Mutt and Pico; Shorty and Minnie Gravy were just a few. He set an arena record in 1964 at the Houston Rodeo, held in the Sam Houston Coliseum. He rodeoed in the 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s and then moved into the race horse business. Wayne has helped on the calf scramble at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo for the last 32 years. He served on the Wilson County 4H and FFA Stock Show committee for 10 years.
For the last 47 years Wayne, has ranched in Stockdale, TX. He raised and owned the horse Classified Bull, who has been the AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association) Texas High Point Aged Racing Stallion for the last four years. Wayne served as the Wilson County Commissioner for 12 years, he was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2011, and was a Bulldogging Champion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Hindmon and Myrtle Stroud and Oliver and Ethel Hardin.
Wayne is survived by his significant other, Joyce Easley; son, Brian Stroud (Dana); daughter, Debbie Johnson (Daryl); mother of their loving children, Genie Stroud; grandchildren, Cooper and Caylynn Johnson; sister, Sue Williams Harper (Jack); numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Finch Funeral Chapel- Stockdale. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Stockdale Church of Christ in Stockdale, Tx.
Pastor Billy Moore, Mr. Tom Craitker, and Mr. Kenneth Clapp will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Stockdale Cemetery. Online guestbook may be signed at www.finchfuneralchapels.com.
