Warhorses crush Mavericks

In their third district game, the Varsity Warhorses destroyed the Pearsall Mavericks 11-2 last Tuesday. Devine took an early command of the game in the bottom of the first outscoring Pearsall 7-0.
The first run came when there were two Warhorses on base, two outs, and Connor Schmidt singled to shortstop and Isaac Solis scored. Matt Ornelas hit a line drive to single and Truett Barron crossed home to make the score 2-0. The next play, Chad Lawson scored on a passed ball while Jerrod Taylor walked. Tristan Kramer walked to load the bases with Ornelas on third and Taylor on second. Brady Harrell singled but had two RBIs with Ornelas and Taylor scoring and bringing the score to 5-0. With Kyler Brown at bat, Harrell stole second and Kramer stole home after ball one. With a full count, Brown singled, Harrell crossed home and Brown was thrown out at first to end the inning 7-0.
The game remained 7-0 until the top of the fifth inning when Pearsall scored two runs and Devine answered in the bottom of the sixth with four more runs. Chad Lawson singled to bring Ornelas home. Brown hit a fly ball to center while Lawson scored. The final two runs came when Harrell and Brown scored off a passed ball. Pearsall couldn’t answer and the game ended after the top of the seventh. Final score 11-2.
Schmidt 1 single, 1 double, 1 RBI; Solis 1 RBI; Brown 2 singles, 2 RBI, 1 run, 1 stolen base; Kramer 1 run, 1 stolen base; Lawson 1 single, 1 RBI, 2 runs; Harrell 1 RBI, 2 runs, 1 stolen base; Ornelas 1 single, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run; Taylor 1 RBI, 1 run; Barron 1 run. Schmidt pitched 70 strikes in 107 pitches and Crouch had 10 strikes in 17 pitches.
With a district record of 2-1, the Warhorses faced Lytle yesterday and will play Carrizo Springs Friday night. Next Tuesday they will play Crystal City at home. Games start at 4:30.
