Devine’s varsity track team has literally run away from the competition at each of the six meets it has participated in this season. Thursday, March 30th at Somerset’s Pre-District Invitational, the Warhorses loaded up the bus once more with a Championship plaque in hand.
“This was a great tune-up meet for us to prepare for district competition,” stated Head Track Coordinator Lynn Cozby. “We had many runners, jumpers, and throwers show improvement. We are definitely ready for District.”
Devine’s 153 1st place points outdistanced 2nd place finisher Pearsall. Host Somerset was next with 104 points. Leading in individual points for the Warhorses was Dillon Ricord with 28 followed by Trent Laughlin’s 20 points and Jack Zimmerle’s 18. Isaiah Johnson of Living Rock led all individual point totals with 32.
The JV Warhorses had another strong showing scoring 129 points, second to Lytle’s 134 points which claimed the Pirates 1st place. Behind Devine was 3rd place finisher Floresville with 72 points.
