Ten Devine Warhorse Powerlifters competed in Cotulla this past Saturday. Eight received individual medals and the Warhorses earned 3rd place as a team.
Individual results are as follows: Demetrios Monreal 132lb class 2nd place with a 890lb total, Jose Fargason 148lb class 2nd place with a 1,060lb total, Luke Torres 148lb class 5th place with a 1,020lb total, Lucas Byrd 165lb class 4th place with a 1,240lb total, Steven Ramirez 165lb class 2nd place with a 1,295lb total, Dakota Wofford 181lb class 3rd place with a 1,005lb total, Austin Felan 198lb class 3rd place with a 1,175lb total, Christian Arredondo 275lb class 3rd place with a 1,335lb total.
“Although Aatu Maeenpaeae and Garrett Carver did not place in this competition, each increased their totals tremendously. Aatu went up 60lb on his total from his last competition and Garrett increased 90lb on his total,” stated Head Coach Paul Gomez. “I am extremely proud of these young men. This is definitely the strongest team that I have had as it had eight members with 1,000-pound totals.”
Two lifters were excused from this meet for varying reasons. Colton Bean, who currently ranks 8th in the region, was home sick with the flu and Austin Soto was in training for the regional and hopefully state meets. Austin is currently ranked 2nd in the region and 3rd in state.
Girls regional is in Carrizo Springs Saturday, March 4. Boys regional is in Corpus Christi on March 11.
