Warhorse golfers trump District foes to win title

The Warhorse golf team won the 29-4A District Championship, easily outdistancing themselves from 2nd place Carrizo Springs by a final round score of 648 to 841. Devine’s second team made a valiant effort in trying to notch that regional-qualifying number 2 spot but fell short by 4 strokes, 845 to 841. With the championship in hand, the Warhorses will compete at the Regional Tournament in Corpus Christi on April 24 and 25.
Devine had the top 3 medalistS in the tournament as well. Carson Tilley finished as the 1st place medalist shooting a 73/71 for a 144. Noah Tumbarello shot 83/80 for a 163 for a 2nd place finish. Beau Cardenas got 3rd place with his 82/88 for 170 score.
Hunter Murphy (91/80-171) and Brice Champion (96/93-189) rounded out the rest of the Team 1 scoring.
Team 2 was led by Brandon Flues (87/98-185) who qualified for the Regional Tournament as an at-large competitor. Ricky Gollrad (105/103-208), Payton Anderson (114/106-220), Hunter Dougherty (115/117-232), and Travis Simons (148/131-279) competed well to almost claim that 2nd place qualifying spot.
