The Devine Warhorse golf teams claimed two of the top three places in the pre-District tournament held Monday at the Devine Golf Course. Devine Team 1 finished the day with a team score of 329. That team also had the top three medalists with Carson Tilley claiming 1st (70), Hunter Murphy 2nd (84), Brice Champion 3rd (85). Rounding out Team 1’s scores were Noah Tumbarello (90) and Beau Cardenas (93).
Carrizo Springs shot a 430 to capture 2nd place. They will definitely have to keep their eye on the leaderboard during District competition as Devine’s Team 2 won’t be far behind trying to claim that 2nd spot that will advance to Regional in Corpus Christi. Team 2 shot a 436, only 6 strokes behind 2nd place Carrizo Springs.
“Our kids will do everything they can within the rules to get that 2nd place spot,” said Head Golf Coach PJ Wells. “They are out on the course everyday working to improve their game. Six strokes are within striking distance of taking both teams to regionals.”
Team 2 scores: Ricky Gollrad (99), Brandon Flues (101), Hunter Dougherty (108), Payton Anderson (128), and Travis Simons (145).
District Golf will be held Monday and Tuesday at the Devine Golf Course. Four teams comprise District 29-4A (Carrizo Springs, Crystal City, Devine, and Pearsall). The top two teams advance to Regional in Corpus Christi on April 24-25. Tee time is 8:30am both Monday and Tuesday.
