Thompson wins Devine City Council seat

Cory Thompson handily defeated incumbent Hal Lance and fellow challenger Kevin Hicks in the District 5 election last Saturday.
The official results show that Thompson won by a wide margin.

Challenger Cory Thompson won the election of the District 5 spot on the Devine City Council, defeating incumbent Hal Lance and fellow challenger Kevin Hicks last Saturday, May 6.
Thompson won by a wide margin, garnering 42 votes during early voting and 57 votes on election day for a total of 99. Lance received 10 votes in early voting and nine votes on election day for a total of 19, while Hicks had five votes.
“I am humbled by the overwhelming confidence that the voters have in me,” Thompson said. “They have given me a victory, and have let their voices be heard.”
Total voter turnout was 123, up from 107 in the last District 5 election in 2013, when Lance won reelection over challenger Dave Morgan by three votes, 55 to 52.
Thompson will be sworn in at the next Regular City Council meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, May 16 at 6:00 pm at City Hall.
“My hope now is that I can come together with the City as I work on behalf of the voters in District 5,” Thompson said.
