The peanut butter baby

I was watching some home videos that I need to transfer off my phone, when I came across the video of us telling A’Dell that I’m pregnant. A’Dell and I had just arrived at Port Aransas for our family beach vacation, when on a whim, I decided to stop at the store and buy a pregnancy test. She can read now, so I carefully slid a pregnancy test in the basket, while I distracted her with some candy on the other side of the aisle.
We had just found out a few days prior that my little sister Brittany is pregnant, so I had babies on my mind, and I kept wondering why I had the strangest craving for peanut butter that week. I made peanut butter sandwiches for A’Dell and I just about every night, and she was loving it. Meanwhile, my husband laughed at us and commented a few times about my weird peanut butter fix.
I didn’t really think I was going to be pregnant since we have asked the stork to deliver us another baby for so many years with no success, but I bought a test that day just out of curiosity. Of course, when it came up positive, I had to go back to the store and buy four more tests to be sure. The worst part was I had to wait until the next day to tell A’Dell, so my husband could be there to see her excitement. She has wanted a little brother or sister for a very long time. We had arrived a day earlier than my husband and earlier than the rest of the family who were traveling in separate vehicles.
When we finally got to announce the big news to A’Dell, I expected her to shriek one of those high-pitched screams that are so loud we’d have to cover our ears, but instead, she was so shocked, she was speechless at first.
Her eyes got really, really big and she just sort of rolled over and did a head stand for a few seconds….made for an interesting video of her little butt sticking up in the air. Then finally, she asked in a confused little voice: “Is it because you ate a lot of peanut butter?”
There’s an interesting twist to the stork story. The thoughts that come out of her mouth never fail to entertain me! If the stork won’t bring you a baby, try eating lots of peanut butter! We will find out later this week if we are having a boy or a girl, and I can’t wait to see how she reacts to that.
