Temporary road closures on Halloween

Welcome to the latest update on police activity in Lytle along with some other important “stuff.” Officers handled 38 calls for service and issued 20 traffic citations this past week.
We didn’t have any reported property crimes, the closest we came was a report that a complainant’s girlfriend took his vehicle without permission. He didn’t want to file charges, which is about the norm in these situations.
We took one guy to Jourdanton, he had two active felony warrants. Interestingly officers were called to his residence because he was causing a disturbance, he knew he had the warrants. This is not a good example of how to “fly under the radar.” We rounded out the week with Ofc. Petrash citing three 18 year old males for minor in possession of alcoholic at the McDonald’s parking lot. Surprisingly that was the only service call last Sunday. So 1 call in a 24 hour period is unusual, there must have been some good shows on TV.
October 18th marked my official 18th year anniversary as being appointed Chief of Police. It’s my opinion that my appointment was the wisest move ever made by our elected city leaders. Others will argue that the creation of a water and sewer system was more important. For the sake of keeping everybody happy I’m willing to accept third place, just barely below the sewer system.
The results are in! The Dog Gone Fun run had 33 walkers/runners and raised $2,062. It takes a huge team effort to keep all their events rolling, they sure have a dedicated “power house” team out there.
Once again the city council has authorized some temporary road closures and one way streets for Halloween night. Prairie St. will be closed to thru traffic from Laredo to FM 2790 N, Blume Dr. will be one way and the back phase of Lakeshore Subdivision will also be one way. We anticipate this to be in effect from about 6 PM – 8 PM, though the actual times will be determined by the pedestrian traffic. The goal is to provide a safe environment for the huge amount of trick or treaters that converge on our city. Our officers will be out in full force.
If you are interested in history you will want to mark your calendar for Saturday Nov. 4. The Lytle Public Library will again be hosting a history fair. It grows every year and is a super cool event for the whole family. It is so successful I just wish there was a way I could finagle my way into getting credit for it.
