Stella Mae Paschal Rothe

Stella Mae Paschal Rothe, of D’Hanis, passed away in the evening of August 9, 2018 in Hondo at the age of 95 years. She was born July 26, 1923 in San Antonio, one of four children born to Frank L. Paschal, MD and Stella Mae Plummer Paschal. In 1940, she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and continued her education at Baylor University and the University of Texas. On September 14, 1946, Stella married Bonnard Rothe at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in San Antonio. They were blessed with 58 years of marriage when Bonnard passed away on September 23, 2004.
After Stella married Bonnard, she became a farmer and rancher in addition to caring for her family and their home. She was a member of the Texas Cattle Raisers Association, the Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and taught religion classes there for many years.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her great-granddaughter, Max Simmons; brother, Frank L. Paschal, III; and sisters, Lady Jane Paschal and Ella Katherine Camp.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Walt and Kathy Rothe of D’Hanis; grandchildren, Ryan (Avery) Rothe of D’Hanis, Robin (Jason) Simmons of Louisville, KY, Reagan (Minna) Rothe of Castroville, Kelly (Mike) McIntosh of Llano, Susan Van De Water of Pflugerville, Aaron (Ashley) Cooper of Castroville; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Maggie Rothe, Mae and Myer Simmons, Lena and Walter Lee Rothe, Shelby and Ben McIntosh, Jonah and Eli Van De Water, Kendall and Ainsley Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.
The Holy Rosary will be recited on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 am. Interment will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery on Saturday, August 18 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Stella’s memory to Catholic Relief Services (www.support.crs.org)or to the charity of your choice.
