Socks in my pocket

I had a funny mom moment yesterday. As I was standing in the meat market, trying to decide what kind of steaks I wanted, my daughter started with her antics. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her sit down on the ground and start messing with my shoes, but I didn’t pay too much attention. I just told her to stand back up somewhere between the ribeyes and the cube steak. Not long after that, she did indeed stand up and started rustling around in my back pockets, which was no surprise. I figured she was looking for a quarter for the candy machine.
It wasn’t until we walked outside and I sat down in my truck that I noticed a large squishy object was stuck in my back pocket. Upon my noticing, A’Dell says, “Hey mom, guess what I put in your pocket?….My socks!”
She followed that up with cartoon-like evil laughter.
“Where did you get an idea like that?” I asked.
“I don’t know,” she said hysterically…. “It’s so funny,” she said, still giggling with the cutest little laugh.
It was so silly and strange, I couldn’t keep a straight face long enough to get mad about it. Besides, she was laughing so hard, like she thinks she pulled off the prank of the century.
What’s more, is she plays games with me every morning over her socks, which she hates wearing. Nearly every morning, she puts on her tennis shoes with no socks and I have to tell her to go back and put socks on. I’ve gotten pretty good at this game, (not forgetting to check for socks), so I guess this was her little way of making a comeback. One point for A’Dell.
Well, if you ever need a good prank to play on your pre-occupied, distracted mom you found an A’Dell original! And if you ever see me walking around with a pair of stinky pink socks hanging out of my back pockets, well, you’ll know why….I guess it’s better than gum!
