Sheila Mary FitzSimon Crawford

Sheila Mary FitzSimon Crawford, of Castroville, passed away on October 28, 2017 in San Antonio, at the age of 84 years. She was born March 22, 1933 in Hondo, one of five daughters born to James and Ophelia Haby FitzSimon.
Sheila grew up in Dunlay and graduated from St. Louis High School in 1951. She was awarded a scholarship to Our Lady of the Lake University, but Sheila chose instead to seek employment at Frost Bank and later marry. On September 18, 1954, she married James A. Crawford at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. while James was in the military and stationed in Virginia. After a brief honeymoon, James was deployed to Japan and Sheila returned to Texas and began working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She worked in several positions for Southwestern Bell, retiring after 30 years with the company, at the age of 55.
Sheila was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, past president of Central Catholic High School Mother’s Club, Red Hat Society and her Bunco Club and Pitch Club.
Sheila was preceded in death by herparents, James and Ophelia FitzSimon; sisters, Kathleen FitzSimon and Theodora “Mitzie” FitzSimon.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, James Crawford of Castroville; children, James A. Crawford, Robert (Carolyn) Crawford and Sharon (Donnie Meals) Crawford all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Shawn Crawford, Jason (Jennifer) Crawford, Aaron (fiancée Ashley Fee) Crawford; great-granddaughter, Finley Crawford; sisters, Jacqueline (Charles) Pettibon of San Antonio, Dorothy (Pat) Ahr of Mico; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1, 2017 starting at 5:00 pm at Tondre- Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Sheila’s memory to St. Ann’s Altar Society.
