Ruth Irene (Shuler) Kenney

Ruth Irene (Shuler) Kenney, of Yancey, passed away Friday April 20, 2018 in Yancey, at the age of 80.
Irene was born September 23, 1937 at Lost Lakes near Von Ormy, Texas to Terrell Ellis and Ruth Pegg Shuler. At an early age she learned a love of animals while growing up on a dairy farm,when a teenager, Irene became an avid horse woman rounding up the dairy cows.
At nineteen she married Norman Kenney, whom she had probably known all of her life. One son was born to them, Wade, during a marriage that would last for fifty- nine years.
In their early years together, she developed a fondness of activities such as fishing, swimming, camping and especially playing the guitar; while carrying out her role as wife and mother.
Later life found her working at Southwest School,from where she had graduated.Upon retirement, she and Norman moved to Yancey, Texas, a move that would bring them great happiness and a full life.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, brother Billy Shuler and husband Norman.
Survivors include sister, Wilma (Freeman) White, sister-in-law, Rose Shuler, son, Wade (Gloria) Kenney, grandsons, Curtis (Emily) Kenney, Derrick (Charla) Kenney, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine. Funeral service will follow the visitation at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will follow at the Yancey Cemetery in Yancey.
