NHS track competes at Devine

The Natalia Mustang and Lady Mustang Tracksters competed in a very competitive Devine meet last Saturday at Warhorse Stadium. The Mustangs were able to finish in 11th place out of 15 schools, as the Lady Mustangs who struggle with numbers this season finished toward the bottom.
In the running events, Natalia’s 4X100 M. Relay team was able to finish in 6th place with a time of 45.73 (season best time). Team members included Oscar Alvarez, Kikolai Patino, Ray Rizo and Gabe Figueroa.
When it came to Field Events, the highlight of the day for the boys in blue was Dustin Richardson who was able to claim 1st in the High Jump with a PR 6’0” finish.
When it came to JV action for the boys in blue, Uri Arellano was able to win 2nd place in the Discus with a throw of 104’4”.
In the High Jump, Marcus Perez claimed 3rd place with a jump of 5’6”.
JV Lady Mustang Malia Garcia was able to claim 4th place in Shot Put with a throw of 27’0”. She also claimed 2nd in Discus with a throw of 74’1
“It was a tough meet with a lot of good schools and competition. We were the smallest school and competed well. We had a lot of season best in times and distances. We are steadily in proving as we head to district. We have a practice meet Thursday in Poteet, make up meet in Dilley on April 6, and District in Jourdanton on April 11 and 12”, said Coach Martin Alvarez.
