Mustangs defeat JPII

The Mustangs picked up a dominating 42-14 win to start the season.

The Natalia Varsity Mustangs defeated John Paul II Friday night 42-14. Each team scored one touchdown in the first quarter, but the Mustangs dominated the game going forward. They added another touchdown in the second quarter and three touchdowns in the third. The Guardians were able score one touchdown in the fourth quarter, as well as the Mustangs.
“Overall we played well enough to win the game. We started very slow on both sides of the ball. I hope it was just the first game nerves. After we settled down, we played very well. In order for us to get better we must eliminate the turnovers and reduce our penalties. Penalties hurt us on both sides of the ball,” Coach Chad Graves said.
“Some positives to take away from the John Paul game will be playing physical, executing on offense in the second half, being 6 for 6 in our kicking game. We play in a very tough district so we still have a ton of work to do. When we get all eleven players on the field going in the same direction we are pretty good. I am very excited about the team we could become. We have some very talented players and the most depth we have ever had. I am encouraged about everyone contributing to the win. Good first game to start the season,” Coach Graves continued.
