Milton “August” Ernst, Jr.

Milton “August” Ernst, Jr.

Sportsman, Hunter and Fisherman. These were August’s lifelong enjoyments. He passed away doing what he loved-fishing at Bird Island Basin at Padre Island National Seashore on his second trip this summer. August always wanted to be the best at what he did in the sports of hunting and fishing. He spent only twenty percent of the time implementing his sport, the other eighty percent was spent in preparation.
August loved to travel and spent time visiting France, Spain, England, Ireland and beautiful parts of the Rockies and Canada. In his earlier years of travel he would take his treasured Airstream on extended stays. Poncho, his pet dog was constantly by his side as he went for daily golf cart rides around Lake LBJ, the place he called home for the past nine years.
August was preceded in death by his parents Milton August Ernst, Sr. and Adelle Koehler Ernst both of Somerset and wife Patricia Ernst. He is lovingly remembered by his brothers, Dr. Herbert L. Ernst (Carol) and MG (ret) Joe M. Ernst (Cheryl); niece, Julie Ernst Metcalf (Sean), nephew, John August Ernst (Colleen) and four great nieces and nephews.
August graduated from Somerset High School in 1956. He found great pleasure in staying connected to his classmates and friends besides being the family genealogist. August rose to the rank of Sergeant in the Texas National Guard. He participated for several years by attending annual training at Ft. Hood, TX.
Visitation will be Friday at 1pm, June 23, 2017 with services at 2pm at the Hurley Funeral Home, 14822 Main, Lytle, Texas, 78052. Final interment will immediately follow at the Heickman Cemetery, 7900 Smith Rd., Somerset, Texas.
