Martha Bernhardine Pohlmeyer

Martha Bernhardine Pohlmeyer, age 79, departed this life for her heavenly home on August 25, 2017, surrounded by her loving family in Castroville, Texas. She was the oldest of five daughters born to Henry B. and Adele S. Pohlmeyer, who preceded her in death. She was born in Kingsville, Texas on September 14, 1937.
Martha is survived by her sisters, Dorothy (Jim) Danner of Hondo, Texas, Joan (G C.) Dean of San Antonio, Texas, Mary (Richard) Schrader of Kingsville, Texas and Judy Pohlmeyer of San Antonio, Texas; nieces and nephews, Karol Koehler, Jim Danner, Jr., Lisa Dean, Steven Dean, Jeff Dean, Richard Schrader, Molly Trevino, Byron Derepentigny and many other relatives. She is also survived by the caring staff and residents of Medina Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Castroville, Texas.
Martha was afflicted by cerebral palsy and confined to a wheelchair from birth. Prior to moving to the nursing home in Castroville in 1994, she lived with her parents in Driscoll, Texas. Martha resided at the nursing home for 23 years, and had the distinction of being the longest living resident there. Though she was handicapped, Martha always exhibited a happy and personable attitude, which positively affected all those around her. Martha unconditionally loved her parents and sisters, as well as her other family members, who were all touched by her love.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 10:00 am at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, Castroville, Texas. A reception will follow the Memorial Service at Braden-Keller Community Center, 1410 Amelia Street, Castroville, Texas. Interment at Kingsville Resthaven Cemetery in Kingsville, Texas will be held at a later date.
