Manuel “Chuy” de Jesus Espino, age 72, of San Antonio, passed away on August 24, 2018 in San Antonio. Chuy was born October 3, 1945 in Castroville, one of ten children of Manuel Antonio Espino and Maria Mata Espino. He grew up with his siblings on the family dairy farm on Masterson Road.
During his life, Chuy worked at various jobs, including working for Gary Aircraft in San Antonio, as a heavy equipment operator for City of Castroville Public Works Department, and for a San Antonio Company building furniture.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel A. and Maria Espino; his brothers, Gilberto Espino, Sr., Luciano Espino, Antonio Espino, Roberto Espino and Concepcion Espino and his sister, Eliza Tapia.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Enrique “Ricky” and Lori Espino of Ankeny, Iowa; daughter, Anna Maria Espino of Castroville; grandsons, Austin Espino and Antonio Espino, both of Ankeny, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Guadalupe and Juanita Espino of San Antonio; sisters, Ramona Diaz and Graciela Barron, both of San Antonio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation was Sunday, September 2, 2018 starting at 5:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 6:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection was Monday, September 3, 2018 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment followed at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Chuy’s memory to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, the American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice.
