Lady Mustangs win final regular season meet

Julia Owens is one of six Lady Mustangs headed to Regionals.

The Natalia Lady Mustangs rounded out their 2017-2018 regular season on the mat with a championship style finish. Natalia was able to finish in 1st place as a team, as eight of the fifteen Lady Mustangs who competed were able to medal.
A total of six Natalia Lady Mustangs are Regional Bound, matching the 2016-2017 record from a season ago for qualifiers. The Regional Meet will be March 3rd at Carrizo Springs High School.
“Not only did we have a ton of team success, but we were able to establish yet another regional qualifier last week,” Coach Ilyan Martinez said. “Dezarae Perez was able to qualify in the 148 lb. Weight class as she claimed 1st place with her 775 lb. Total.
Natalia finished the San Antonio lift meet last Thursday with four 1st place finishes. Leading the way was Regional Bound lifter, Julia Owens who competed and won her 97 lb. Weight class with a 545 lb. Total.
JuJu Morales (Regional Bound) was able to finish atop of her 132 lb. Weight class with a 785 lb. Total. Rounding out 1st place finishes was Anastasia Rodriguez, who is also Regional Bound as she claimed a 1st place finish in her 114 lb. Weight class with a 655 lb. Total.
Other Finishes:105 lb. Weight class-Sam Sanchez (Regional Bound) 2nd place-640 lb. total, Bryanna Perez (Regional Bound) 3rd place-610 lb. Total. 114 lb. Weight class- Hailey Manka 4th place-500 lb. Total. 132 lb. Weight class- Gabby Contreras 4th place finish-595 lb. Total, Kaelyn Lara 5th place-550 lb. Total, Kara Chapa 6th place -550 lb. Total. 148 lb. Weight class- Samantha Lemus 3rd place-655 lb. Total, Sofia Almendarez 4th place-650 lb. Total, Julie Rivera 6th place-600 lb. Total and Ally Chavana 9th place-540 lb. Total. 165 lb. Weight class- Gabrielle Santoya 3rd place-730 lb. Total.
“This was the final meet for some of our girls and we couldn’t be more proud of their commitment and progress made this season, which was evident as they managed to set personal records in their final lifts,” Coach Martinez said. “We are excited for the growth of our girls’ team and hope they take this energy and success into the track and field as well as softball,” Martinez added.
