Lady Mustangs playoff-bound with win over Dilley

The Natalia Lady Mustangs continued their quest toward a playoff spot in 2018 by grinding out not so pretty wins versus the Dilley Lady Wolves. Natalia was able to defeat the Frio County squad two straight times to hold on to a slight edge when it comes to the battle for 3rd place in 30-3A. The wins versus Dilley did secure a guaranteed playoff spot.
Natalia had one final game on press night versus rival Lytle on the road. Lytle was coming off an up-set win versus Cotulla. A Natalia win would secure 3rd place in 30-3A, but a loss would give Lytle the 3rd seed and would force Natalia to battle the District 31-3A Champion in the first round of the playoffs.
On Tuesday night, October 19th Natalia was able to defeat the Dilley Lady Wolves by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 16-24, 25-20.
Friday night, Natalia defeated Dilley 25-13, 14-25, 25-12, 22-25 and 15-13.
“We had to work through a few injuries and a little adversity during our games versus Dilley,” Coach Tamara Bednorz said. “We secured a playoff spot and will wait to see exactly who we will play.”
Natalia is 13-25 on the season and 5-4 in 30-3A as of press night. Natalia battled Lytle on the road in a winner takes 3rd seed in district. This game was highly important, because you really don’t want to get 4th, or you get 31-3A Champion #2 state ranked Goliad in the first round of the playoffs.
A 3rd seed finish would pare the 30-3A team versus either George West or Taft most likely. The Bi-District Playoffs would be held next Monday or Tuesday, October 29th-30th at a site TBA.
