JV Warhorses jump on Lytle early

The JV Warhorses batted around and scored 11 runs in the 1st inning, putting Lytle away early on Friday, April 7.
Devine started the game inauspiciously with a ground out to first before Chad Lawson and Gehrig Runyan drew back-to-back walks. Lawson stole third and scored on a passed ball, and Luke Ricord walked to put runners on first and third. Another passed ball allowed Runyan to score, and Truett Barron singled to second before Joseph Guajardo cleared the bases with a triple to right for a 4-0 lead.
Tristin Kramer drew a two-out walk, and Tristin Cruz and Joey Seguin each singled to third, with Kramer scoring on the latter hit. During Lawson’s second trip to the plate, Cruz scored on two passed balls that also allowed Seguin to move to third.
Lawson eventually walked, as did Runyan, Jordan Degollado, and Barron to push the lead to 9-0. Runyan scored on a passed ball, and Guajardo singled to drive in Degollado to give the JV Warhorses a commanding 11-0 lead.
Lytle scored a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st inning, all thanks to the JV Warhorses. A leadoff walk, two hit batters, and back-to-back walks lead to the JV Pirates’ first run.
Devine scored four more runs in the top of the 2nd. Cruz hit a one-out triple to left, then scored on Seguin’s single to shortstop. Lawson doubled, Runyan walked to load the bases, and Seguin scored on a passed ball before Ricord walked to load the bases again. Guajardo followed with a two-out single to knock in Lawson and Runyan to put Devine up 15-1.
The JV Pirates scored twice in the bottom of the inning, again with help from Devine. After a one-out single and a strikeout, a Pirate batter reached base on a dropped third strike. Three straight walks followed to force in two more runs.
The JV Warhorses plated five more runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Kramer led things off with a single, Cruz walked, and Seguin doubled to drive in Kramer. Lawson followed with a single to knock in Cruz, Dakota Wofford was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Degollado’s fielder’s choice to shortstop allowed Seguin to score. Barron doubled in Lawson, and Brady Harrell was hit by a pitch to load the bases again, this time with two outs. Kramer singled to right to plate Wofford for the last run of the game.
Devine held Lytle scoreless in the bottom of the 3rd inning to finish off the 20-3 win.
The JV Warhorses had 14 hits and 11 walks, while Lytle had just two hits and six walks. Neither team committed an error, and both left seven runners on base.
