JV Horses hold off Pearsall

Devine’s JV Warhorses escaped the DSAC with a 40 to 35 victory over the visiting Pearsall Mavericks last Friday night. The Horses held a somewhat-comfortable 34 to 22 lead entering the final quarter before the Mavericks tried to rally, outscoring Devine 13 to 6 to narrow the final margin.
“The team rebounded from two consecutive losses to get a much needed win,” Coach Evan Eads said. “We started out with a great first quarter, playing aggressive and physical defense. In the fourth quarter, we didn’t block out very well which helped Pearsall get back into the game. We will fix those types of errors and continue to work on our free throw shooting so we can finish out our season in a positive way”
Devine led 16 to 10 after the first quarter and 22 to 14 at halftime.
Points: Brady Cardenas-14, Damian Martinez-6, Travis Simons-6, Javi Torres-5, Brady Harrell-4, Donavon Camacho-2, Marques Burford-Zawahreh-2, Tristan Kramer-1.
The JV will have played at Hondo Tuesday night. They close out their season with games at home against Lytle and on the road at Carrizo Springs with both of those game times at 6:15 pm in the main gyms
