JV cross country closes out season

The future is looking bright for the future of Devine High School’s Cross Country teams. The JV Arabians claimed the top team trophy last week in Lytle at the District 29-4A Invitational. Alexis Shook led the charge finishing 3rd overall with a time of 14:08.
Not far behind Alexis, Jasmine Stricker took 6th with a time of 14:52 and Grace Singleton placed 9th with 15:15. Rounding out the six-member squad was Victoria Gonzales (12th-15:45), Lorena Chavera (13th-15:48), and Ana Valerio (17th-16:22).
Girls’ team results: 1st-Devine-36; 2nd-Pearsall-41; 3rd-Lytle-47.
Although the JV Warhorses did not have enough members to qualify as a team, the four runners still performed to the best of their ability and improved on previously recorded times. Matthew Madrid placed 16th with time of 20:40 while Michael “Slim” Reichel took 18th with a time of 20:49. Andy Cordova (23rd-21:35) and Zachary Alvarez (24th-22:04) rounded out the Warhorse finishes.
Boys’ team results: 1st-Lytle-22; 2nd-Crystal City-50; 3rd-Pearsall-68.
