John Paul Rohrbach

John Paul Rohrbach, beloved husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle and cousin, passed away Saturday morning, February 10, 2018 in San Antonio, at the age of 66 years. He was born July 17, 1951 in Hondo, the son of Oscar Joseph Rohrbach and Melverda Adella Poerner Rohrbach.
John grew up in Hondo, graduating from Hondo High School in 1970. He married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Marjorie Haby of Rio Medina, on his birthday in 1971, at St. Louis Catholic Church. For the first year of their marriage, John and Gayle lived in San Antonio, where John was employed by Allegheny Heating and Air. They moved to Hondo in 1972, and John took a job at Alamo Lumber Company. John then began a daily commute to San Antonio to work as an inside sales representative for the following commercial electrical supply companies, first working at Temple, Inc., then for Poleline Electric and retired from Techline, Inc. John and Gayle moved to Castroville in 2010. John was an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church. He served on the pastoral council and also served as chairman. He was a member of St. Louis Men’s Society, Hermann Sons Lodge #71, Quihi Gun Club and he assisted with the Men’s ACTS retreats.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard “Rick” Rohrbach, niece, Laurie Rohrbach; nephew, Kevin Rohrbach and his parents-in-law, Milton and Florence Haby.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Gayle Haby Rohrbach of Castroville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay and Bob Heyen, Mary and Larry Griffin, all of Hondo; sister-in-law, Gail Rohrbach of D’Hanis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Robbie Haby of Helotes; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Trudy and Jeff Haby of Castroville; nephews, Dr. Kenneth Rohrbach, George (Yvette) Proctor, Lance Griffin, Kyle (Kim) Heyen, Justin (Jennifer) Griffin, Ryan (Deidra) Haby, Cody (Chelsea) Haby, Cory Haby; nieces, Ashli (Johnathan) Bossom, Lynli (Eric) Jones, Shannon Thompson, Michelle (Justin) Sifuentes; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, followed by the Holy Rosary recited at 6:00 pm that evening at St. Louis Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be Monday, February 19, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be given in John’s memory to any of the St. Louis Catholic Church funds.
