John Edward “Lucky” Lawrence, Jr., of Castroville, passed away December 18, 2017 in San Antonio at the age of 73 years. He was born July 12, 1944 in Watsonville, California to John Edward Lawrence, Sr. and Adeline Jane Barnes Lawrence.
After graduating from high school, John served in the U.S. Army for 2 ½ years. He worked for Braniff Airlines at San Antonio International Airport for 16 years. Then he worked for Medina Valley ISD for 19 years, retiring in 2001. He also worked part time doing plumbing and electrical work. On June 4, 1966, he married Betty Jean Riff in St. Louis Catholic Church. John and Betty were blessed with 51 years of marriage and four children.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lawrence of Castroville; children and their spouses, Christie and Lee McVay of Castroville, Mistie Lawrence of San Antonio, Benjamin and Michelle Lawrence of Sonora, Keith and Jessica Lawrence of Castroville; grandchildren, Felicia (Ben) Fuller, Katie McVay, Kara McVay, Kurstantay Lawrence, Bram Lawrence, Asher Hernandez, Kason Lawrence, Kinsley Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Loghen Lawrence, Ellie Fuller, Barrett Fuller; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Rosie Lawrence; mother-in-law, Dora Schott Horner; sisters-in-law, Jonell Tarvin and Dorothy Masters.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, starting at 5:00 pm followed by a Celebration of John’s life at 6:00 pm. Services will conclude at the funeral home.
