Joan Elaine Summers Dike

Joan Elaine Summers Dike, “Grammy,” passed away February 26, 2017 in Castroville at the age of 84 years. Joan was born June 23, 1932 in Elmira, New York to Raymon Glen Summers and Dorothy Jane Wrigley Summers.
Joan was a member of the OES San Antonio Radiant Chapter #3, Social Order of Beauceant Assembly #159, a Cub Master from 1984 to 1998 and worked with the Cub Scouts for 25 years. After her retirement from her job as an insurance customer service representative she was a substitute teacher for Medina Valley ISD for 15 years. As her children were growing up she was very active in their school and extracurricular activities. She was a room mother and helped with their Little League and Girl Scouts activities. Joan was also a Sunday School Teacher. She just loved working with children any chance she could get.
On January 1, 1983, she married Aaron Dike in Castroville. They were married for twenty seven years at the time of his death.
Survivors include her children, Donald Lange of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Alan “Pete” Lange and wife Carol of San Antonio, Karen Poissonnier of Castroville, Bonny Ash and husband Ryan of Castroville, and grandson she raised as a son, Rory Lange of Castroville; stepson, Dale Dike of San Antonio; grandsons, William Davidson, Cole (Natalie) Benke, Taylor (Emily) Brandesky, and Trace (Shelbi) Cowan; great-grandchildren, Victoria Daily, Trystan and Nicholas Benke, Elijah and Joseph Brandesky.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 8:00 am to 9:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church with the Funeral Service starting at 9:00 am. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
Memorials may be made in Joan’s memory to Zion Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
