Gladys Eleanor Tondre Speer was born in Castroville, TX on January 19, 1922 and passed away on August 20, 2017 from natural causes at the age of 95.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Tondre and Ella Etter Tondre Hass; husband of 61 years, Harry C. Speer; sister, Pearl Tondre Bourquin; sister, Doris Tondre Germer; and brother, Harvey Tondre.
She is survived by daughter, Rita Bush, and grandchildren: Donna (Mark) Ramsey, Mike (Sandy) Malchoff, David (Leah) Malchoff and great-grandchildren Briana, Shea and Adam Ramsey; Ashley, Lauren and Lindsey Malchoff; and Alyssa (Andrew Matsuzaki), Devon, Cameron and Addyson Malchoff; and great-great-grandchild Benjamin Matsuzaki.
Gladys graduated from St. Louis Catholic School and attended Draughons Business College. She was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #70 and a lifelong parishioner of St Brigid’s Catholic Church.
Gladys was a wonderful, compassionate, and caring mother and grandmother to her family. She was a kind and overwhelmingly generous person who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. At her home at the Villa De San Antonio, she made many dear friends in her 10+ years of residency there. She was a lifelong San Antonio Spurs fan and would never miss a game (no matter what!). She enjoyed playing bingo and trying her luck at the slots at Kickapoo Casino in Eagle Pass, TX.
Visitation was at 6:00 pm and Rosary at 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 24 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr. The Mass was at 10 am on Friday, August 25 at St Brigid’s Catholic Church, 6907 Kitchener in San Antonio, 78240. Interment followed at Mission Park North, 20900 IH 10 West, San Antonio, TX 78257.
