Friendship Art Club Show and Sale set for Sept. 29

The Friendship Art Club Show and Sale is on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Lytle Community Center.

The Friendship Art Club focused their July meeting on plans for the September Art Show and Sale. This year’s art show will be Saturday, September 29 at the Lytle Community Center.
The Art Show features twenty two booths. Booth rates are $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Items to be displayed must be the artist’s original work. No commercial items may be sold. Booth applications will be available after Tuesday, August 14. For information, please call Jane Brown, Show Chairman, at 210-415-2546.
Artists participating in the show are eligible to enter three works in the show competition. The competition includes different categories in which to enter. An independent judge selects prize winners, including Best of Show. A new drawing category will be added this year. The People’s Choice Award is chosen by ballots cast by the visitors at large and announced at the show’s end.
Another popular feature is the raffle. The raffle consists of a variety of donated items. The selection differs from year to year. Raffle tickets are a dollar apiece and are available at the show. Members will also be selling tickets after August 14. Proceeds from the raffle support the student scholarship program. Please call Liz Bendele, raffle chairman, with questions or donations at 210-854-4362.
The Friendship Art Club also sponsors the Student Art Show. This much anticipated event spot lights the work of four local high schools and six junior high schools. The entries are judged by a qualified judge and ribbons are awarded. Participating schools are also recognized for outstanding participation, based on a points system. Best of show is selected and there will also be a People’s Choice award, based on the ballots cast by visitors at large.
Set-up for the booths is Friday, September 27, between 10 am and 2pm. The competition is judged Friday afternoon. The show is open to the public at 9:00 in the morning, Saturday, September 28. Raffle winners and People’s Choice awards will be announced between 3 and 4 pm.
Currently, the on going art exhibit at Naomi’s Restaurant is changing. The month of August will feature the art work of Liz Bendele. Liz is a longtime member of the art club. She has been painting for 20 years and credits artist Anna Hurley for her love of oil painting. Although Liz prefers to paint landscapes, she enjoys a large range of subjects. Naomi’s is located at 15033 Main Street, Lytle Tuesday morning , Texas.
The Friendship Art Club meets every Tuesday morning at the Lytle Church of Christ. Business meetings are the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be August 14. Although we will be focusing on the raffle and other show business, members are encouraged to bring a recent piece of art work to share for a Show and Tell program. Visitors are cordially invited.
