Frank Morris Christian

Frank Morris Christian, of El Paso and San Antonio, died on February 1, 2018 in San Antonio. Frank was born on August 24, 1930, in Tyler, Texas. He grew up in Lindale, Texas, spent two years in the Marine Corps, earned the degree of Eagle Scout, and then finished his degree at North Texas State.
Frank and Lynn met at North Texas, married in 1954, and devoted themselves to family and community. He loved coaching, teaching history, serving his church, playing golf, and spending time with his many friends. He began coaching football at El Paso High School in 1959, became the head football coach there, and also coached at Canutillo High, taking their Varsity Team to a District Championship. He considered his students and players as extended family and served as a mentor to many of them. He was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church in 1975 and was active in Gideons International. Frank was a people person with a wonderful sense of humor; he continued to work in his insurance business, never retiring, until shortly before the time of his death. He loved working with others, and greatly enjoyed his circle of friends at Blue Skies of Texas. Frank was in the Air Force Reserves for 28 years. His last assignment was with the Air Force Academy as Director for Academy Liaison Officers in New Mexico and the El Paso area. He enjoyed flying, and maintained his pilot’s license into his 70’s.
Frank also loved to travel and enjoyed many trips abroad with Lynn, including visits throughout the United States, Europe, The United Kingdom, and New Zealand. Frank was an excellent provider, a family man, steady helpmate and partner, positive teacher, coach, and role model for contributing well and fully to his community. He was always the optimist, and his humor will be sorely missed.
Frank was preceded in death by his mother, Mamie Jewel Christian.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilynn Lee Campbell Christian; daughter, Juli Christian Rosenbaum; and daughter, Jana Christian Wiant and husband, Jason. With great joy that the blessing and goodness of his life is being carried on, he is survived by three grandchildren he was devoted to—Sarah Evan Rosenbaum, David Christian Rosenbaum, and Jacob Christian Wiant. He is also survived by his brother Ross Christian, and wife Bobbie, and their two children, Charlene Smith and Jason Christian.
