Erick Carlton Reed

Erick Carlton Reed, aged 42, from Lytle, passed away on Aug. 29, 2017 in his home. He was born on April 5, 1975 to Kenneth and Paulette Reed in Houston, TX. He attended Harlingen High School and graduated in 1993.
After high school Erick moved with his mom to San Antonio. Later he served his country in the only way he was able to by working as a privatelycontracted security specialist in Afghanistan. While serving in this capacity, Erick gained lifelong friendships with others serving.
Erick also served his community as a policeman, an EMT, as well as in the volunteer fire department in both cities of Hondo and Lytle, Texas. He tried to serve wherever and however he could, as long as he was physically able to do so. Along the way, Erick continued to gain friendships from many different walks of life and he touched many lives with his gentleness and kindness.
Erick is preceded in death by his dad, Kenneth Reed.
He is survived by his mother, Paulette, and stepdad George “Bud” Pyron of Hondo; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Rebecca Reed of Marble Falls; sister, Karyn Allen, of Lytle; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Tom Graff of Hondo; stepbrother and sister-in-law, Kyle and Christine Pyron of Waco; and stepbrother and sister-in-law, Coby and Stacy Pyron of Devine; numerous nephews, Derek, Kevin, and Jared Reed, Reed, Patrick, and Ryan Graff, Jackson Pyron; niece Holly Silvas and her husband, David; numerous aunts, uncles, and many cousins. He was especially close to his cousins Heidi Peltier of New Braunfels and Matt Schlessiger of San Antonio, who were close to his age, and they had many adventures while growing up together.
Erick loved his country, his family and friends, and his two German Shepherds, Koda and Schotzi. He was a proud uncle, a loyal friend, and a devoted son and brother. A celebration of his life will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Lytle on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 2:00 pm.
